Well, I've been dieting properly (as opposed to my version of it, which generally involves 'allowing myself a treat', and is hence unsuccessful!) for a week & a half, and managed to lose 2lbs in the first week. It's not much, but it's a start, and I'm doing fairly well. It seems easier if you cook stuff yourself, as manufacturers seem to pack more calories, fat, and salt into one small meal than I put in a meal for 3! Using the 'My Fitness Pal' app, which seems to help, and it's a free app, so no extortionate fees. And tried Zumba/Just Dance 2 on the wii - I reckon I look ridiculous, but my OH is too busy looking ridiculous himself to laugh, so we're doing ok!
Totally embarrassed myself in the supermarket last week, though. The entrance doors were broken, so everyone was squeezing in and out of the exit doors, which weren't fully open either. I'd not taken my stick, with the idea of getting a trolley, but ended up with a basket, and - with my basket just a little too close to the door - I seemed to be propelled forwards and to the right, and was unable to actually stop myself. It was a very odd feeling, as I didn't seem to be able to control my body at all. The end result was that I basically landed on a bloke going the opposite way, and he had to push me back upright again! I mumbled something about tripping over my own feet, but I'm sure he thought I was drunk! I then proceeded to crash into at least 3 display stands, and got out of there as quickly as possible, promising myself that I would never again shop without my stick or a trolley!

How on earth do you do Zumba with a stick... Does you OH hold you up from behind...
I don't always need the stick for short bursts (obviously the supermarket trip was an occasion where I did, although I'd been standing on-and-off for most of the morning ... killer!), and I tend to do 4 minutes of zumba, sit for 5, then try another 4. After that, I'm flaked, but - as I'm still fortunate enough to be able to do things (albeit with an element of pacing, and only if I choose my moments wisely) - I like to have a little go. I've learned to take co-codamol and naproxen well in advance of starting any exercise, though, otherwise I'm in for a very painful night!
That said, I've only managed 3 evenings where I've been up to doing any of it, out of the last fortnight, so I've still got a way to go, but I'm giving myself brownie points for trying!
Loved your story too. We have to laugh at ourselves don't we, although at the time we may be cringing with embarrassment! I know those moments well! Sharing on here helps as then we don't feel quite so alone with our peculiarities and foibles.
Well done with the diet. I am impressed. I don't have any will power I am afraid. How do you manage to be so strong? I need to lose 4 stone really. All I have managed is a pound which keeps bouncing on and off! ...lol. Now I have high cholesterol and have to see the nurse so no doubt will be put on a strict diet...ugh!
Zumba....well I am very impressed. My goodness that is energetic! I used to love dancing but can't do that any more I am afraid.
I'm not really strong - I have my grumpy moments! But I promised my OH I'd diet this year, as he's worried about my health (physical and mental), and also because promising him gives me a reason to stick with it - I never break a promise unless I have no choice, and I do have a choice. If I only promise myself, it doesn't count, so I'll break that no trouble!
I really can't do it anymore, either, and I do get my legs in a knot and fall over sometimes, but it's more fun that making a tit of myself in the gym!
Hugs for you, too - hope the diet isn't too rough! xx
Am going thru a very very bad downed at the mo hanging on my a spiders thread and since my husband's funeral on Christmas eve i have dropped12 ks from stress answer upsets have no idea how to convert that into stones and would have it back just for some peace of mind
Blossom, you poor thing - have a hug. Hope you are getting the help and support that you need at what must be a truly distressing time for you. Remember, we're all here to help. xx
Hey I wasnt complaining just making you jealous of my weight loss try to eat a piece of fresh fruit not juice before you eat not after food it breaks down the food eat slowly this does work..... use a smaller plate it makes you think you have loads to eat keep both sweet and sour snacks that are as less fattening as poss around you if you fancy a chocolate HAVE A Chocolate before the craving becomes a rampage of sweerts binge
do not go onto special diets eventually you will return to your normal food so try to make do with your normal food but less of it at mid morning and mid afternoon eat some fresh fruit even if you dont want it go for a half a hour walk every day dont stop to natter take it slowlyband build up from five minutes a day to the half hour
Make sure you drink a fair amount of water if you are peckish out side of food times drink a bottle of water sounds nutz but it all works the water keeps you system flushed both ends do not weigh yourself early morning get a mate to diet and walk with you put a pound in a jar for every half kg you lose you will need it for new dress good luck petal
