Any help for fibro fog?

Has anyone found an effective way to help with fibro fog? I am finding I am mixing up my words and forgetting basic words. It is quite scary and at times I feel like I am losing me because I can`t verbalise properly and people think I`m stupid.

Hi Jennej6,

This is a rotten part of Fibro I am afraid, You think you are doing okay and then you forget the name of your neighbor of the last twenty years - terribly frustrating I rely on my OH when I am conversing to fill the blanks ofcourse this is not always the right course of action as he does not know what I am talking about as he cannot hear properly :) Mostly my friends are very patient which helps I have become a tremendous list maker and use them as prompts at times till I find I have made lists of lists cause I have forgotten the first list.

Sorry may not be very helpful to you but that is how I survive the fog! Good luck Happy New Year xgins

Hi,

I found a total cure for fibro fog ... all you have to do is ... ummm ... er ... I seem to have forgotten!

I used to be able to remember telephone numbers by the dozen - now I can't remember my own, but it's words that give me real problems.

I forget people's names too, or address them by someone else's name, and on Christmas Eve, I asked my daughter and son-in law if they had asked the vacuum cleaner in for a drink. I actually meant the lady who 'does' for them , but it sort of came out wrong.

The worst thing was when I called a taxi to take some guests back to the railway station - I suddenly couldn't recall my own address - that was really embarrassing!

It's so unpredictable - sometimes I can hold a fairly intellectual conversation if I get 'in the zone' as they say, then all of a sudden I'm fishing for words just to manage day-to-day stuff.

I'm like Gins - I make lots of lists, then forget where I've put them. The only way I cope is to have a good laugh about it, and always make sure I have a tag with name address and 'phone number on my handbag.

Now ... where did I put that handbag .......?

Hi Jennej6 -- I just "laugh and make a joke of it" when the wrong words or name "slips" out of my mouth -- I am constantly making "lists" of what I need to ask when I have to make an important phone call (which helps a little) and the amount of objects in my house that are called "thingey" are amazing!!! When it first started happening I was frightened i had dementia but now I know better. The funny thing is that quite often several hours later ( when I am doing something completely unrelated!) the "word or name " i had forgotten earlier will just suddenly "pop" into my mind!!!! strange eh?!!! xx

Wow! I have lots of 'Thingeys' too!

I wonder if you got your thingeys at the same store that I got mine?

I can't remember which store it was at the moment, but they do sell really good thingeys at low wotsits!

:) Love ..Moffy x

Thanks all for the replies. I do make lots of lists. I especially find this helpful at work as it helps me keep track of what I am doing. It`s at home I find it quite frustrating, mainly I just shrug and say its Mum being Mum, but sometimes I get annoyed with myself. I have to learn to laugh at myself more!!
