Hello Allie, if your medications aren't working effectively and you are not managing your pain well, or are having increased sleep problems etc., you really need to speak to your GP about this.
If your GP isn't being as helpful as you think he/she should be, have you considered seeing another GP at your surgery? It might be worth thinking about. Perhaps you could change GP's, it would be worthwhile to have your Doctor understand your symptoms and offer you help and support.
It isn't worth struggling on alone when there is help and support out there with other GP's.
Please try speaking to your current GP first, maybe ask for a referral to a Rheumatologist, that might be a good idea too. See how you get on trying this and if you don't get anywhere I personally would seriously think about seeing someone else as I mentioned above.
Take care and please know that we are always here for you, we will do all we can to help and support you in any way we can.
Please let us know how you get on.

It's very hard at times to get a suitable relief from pain even with medications and having attended a pain clinic it really is about management and trying all sorts of methods. Everyone is so different too. I must admit I hate it when going to any medical professional now, because it really is only 'management' and that frustrates me and I would say 99% of us find that frustrating.
It might help to do a months pain diary, see any patterns and fluctuations. I find I'm worse during the night because I can't get comfortable lying in bed, whereas during the day I have more flexibility to try and moved around.
My pain, even with meds, causes me nightly loss of sleep, but I found Gabapentin for neuropathic pain to be invaluable. I take 900mg, 3 times a day. I also have a BuTrans patch and tramadol, as required for breakthrough pain. Because i don't sleep well, it makes my pain 'feel' much worse as any time I have had half a decent sleep, I do feel quite a bit better.
Ask for a referral to someone so that you can have a review of your medication and any further support you may need.

Hi. I am on morphine slow release, gabapentin, amitriptyline, trazodone and oromorph for breakthrough. I am lucky though my doc is great. I had a really helpful gp for 2 years who diagnosed me, he then left 6 months ago and I was worried about having a new one. I needn't have worried he too is so good
