OH dear poor Holly! So sorry to hear your back is giving you so much trouble. It's still quite early days (although it must feel so long to you) for a back episode. I hope you are managing to find a comfortable position to rest. Have you tried taking normal anti-inflammatories, obviously checking with your GP first to make sure this is ok.
I assume the spasm is Fibro related and not caused by an injury. I am afraid it's a time thing Holly and rest is the answer. Hopefully the spasm will release and subside very soon. Makes sure you take your prescribed meds, give your GP a ring if you can't make it down there to go to the surgery to discuss better pain relief or perhaps a muscle relaxant if necessary.
I hope it eases soon for you my dear. Take care. (((hug))) xxx
To help relieve spasms apply heat to the back using a heat compress or heating pad, or by taking a reasonably hot bath if possible. (Obviously this won't be possible if you can't manage to get into a bath.) To stop back spasms that have just started keep your back warm to help prevent another spasm.
A physiotherapist or a massage therapist may also help if you're prone to back spasms. The treatment may be massage or ultrasound treatment to stimulate the muscles with deep heat.
you have my sympathy - in fact I'm out in sympathy with you. I've got the back spasms too. On Saturday morning I got cross with them and decided to dig out my thermal vests. I've been wearing one since Saturday tucked into my jeans (I have extra length ones so they cover my bum and hips too) and you know what, the spasms arn't so bad now.
The winter is upon us and the cold air around our bodies is no good for us. I'd recommend a thermal vest to keep the draughts off the back to any fibro sufferer.
Its awful, the pain is making breathing painful, feel sick and dizzy constantly.
The only way i can describe it to people is feeling like im on labour! Its the same feeling as when i had my daughter and im having to breath through it the same way! Not having a baby yhough lol!
Defo fibro related, went to bed fine on friday night and been like this ever since.
Im not in as much pain if i walk even though i walk funny again but then when i sit down it is pure agony! I can only manage short distances but hopefully this might help. I have my tens machine which helps but pain is straight back when i take it off. The heat is strange, it helps at first but then the pain seems to move to another spot.
Sorry if spelling is bad meds have made me a bit drowsy!
When mine goes into spasm I find either my massage pad on the chair back helps at home or a tens machine disrupts the tension & eventually relieves it.
Its so awful when you can't breathe coz of it, I find I really have to concentrate so panic doesn't add to the problem!
When my back or ribcage goes into spasm I get into a warm bath, put my head under the water so my back is virtually straight and I just soak for ten minutes, longer if I can bear it. I hope your back improves soon xxxxx
