Has anyone experienced really bad pain in their thighs and groin area?

Morning everyone,

I have been awake again since 1o'clock, with really bad pain in my groin and thighs, and the pain is going right down the front of my leg to toes. It is so painful to walk and go up the stairs. On touching my right thigh i can feel little lumps under the skin, i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it is common in fibro.

Hi bonnielass, I have had ME and FM for nearly 14 years and this is something I get regularly. It has now got so bad that I am due to go back to see the Nerologist in December for more tests as it as got so severe I now have to take Morphine every day. I had to give up my 15 year career due to this painful condition and it is very frustrating that the symptoms are so many yet so many people still don't understand this syndrome.

Rest up today and stay warm

Morning! Yes, I get that all the time, especially the long shooting pains down my thighs. To the point where I have to drag myself around the house. And you're not the only one up all night - been awake since 3am, tried to sleep, got up. Absolutely shattered and a busy day ahead. Trying to muster my strength! Gentle hugs x

Hi fibropixie,

It's awful when you can't sleep, you feel so alone. Sorry if i sounded self centred, didn't mean to as i know most fellow sufferers don't sleep.

Have you found anything helps with the pain, i'm taking tramadol but that's not even taking the edge off at all,

Take Care

Try not to overdo it today

I was taking Tramadol for years for the pain but eventually you get used to them. That is what happened to me. That is why they gave me the MST (Morphine Tabs). Maybe you should go back to see your GP and ask for a review of your pain medication.

HI Bonnie Lass,

You didn't sound self-centred at all! I think my post sounds a bit moany, but it's not meant to be. I don't post that often so need to brush up on my writing skills! I find it quite comforting to come come to this forum and know that we're not totally alone with our malaise!

I have co-codamol and duluxotine for pain but they're not doing much this morning. Typing is really painful. Yes, lack of sleep makes the pain feel a lot worse I think, and it is quite weird being up in the middle of the night. Thanks goodness for the internet, our silent, night-friend!

Hope you have a good day, nap if you can, gentle hug, Fibropixie

I think that all fellow sufferers of fibro and all the different illness's that are linked to it, are usually people who have struggled on for years and don't like complaining when they are ill, but there comes a point when our bodies can't take any more of us pushing ourselves to the limit and we are really crying out for HELP! with this awful illness and just want either a sympathetic ear or shoulder to cry on.

Do you find it hard to say NO to someone, who has asked a favour of you and all you really want to do is hide away in your own little world? and you just don't know how to express how you are really feeling as it does sound like you are moaning all the time.

Hi I have been switched from fluoxetine for depression, to mirtazipine, which is an anti-depressant plus a sedative which I take at night. Its really helping my sleep as I used to be awake till 4 in the morning and then eventually get to sleep and be out of it for the rest of the day. Hope this helps. Sue xx

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your replies, i really appreciate your advice and support.

I am going to make an appointment later to see my GP to get my meds changed if possible. I don't expect there is much she can do as it's all down to fibro.

Only since I went to Advance Physio. It's a burning, niggling, unbearable sensation. RLS makes it worse.

Hi herme's,

Been to doctors and he said that pain and swelling was arthritis and fibromyalgia, and i should be taking anti inflammatory tablets, but i can't take them due to tummy trouble, and i have to take 2 tramadol and 2 paracetamol tablets 4 times a day, and go back again next week.

I have this,I thought I'd hurt my hip in hydrotherapy.I was going to ask physio about it tomorrow.

I was thinking that I had a worn out hip as my mum had to have both her hips replaced. So maybe it is the dreaded fibro then.

Hi honey sounds awful i don't quite get that but i used to get where it felt like i had fallen on a pole of wood repeatedly as if i was on a greasy pole comp and was bad at it hehe, but seriously it was extremly painful and nothing relieved it. Hope you get relief soon xxxxx

Hi, bonnielass, I get an awful pain in my left groin area. It was so bad that several years ago I even had an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't my ovaries. In passing I had a colonoscopy where a pre cancerous polyp was found and removed so that was a blessing as that might not have been discovered if I hadn't had the groin pain. I then had hydrotherapy which didn't help. After several years of this debilitating pain (on top of all the other aches and pains!!!!!!) it seems that this pain comes from my low back area. I now have a weekly deep tissue massage and my therapist works on this area from my back. It is always painful to a greater or lesser extent, I am afraid....don't think I shall ever get rid of it. Like you I get the thigh pain as well but I think this is because we have very big muscles in this are so i suppose it stands to reason that they'll hurt unfortunately. I also have a lot of arthritis; in my neck, low back and knees and this all compounds the pain of the fibre. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and had to give up work 9 years ago as I just couldn't struggle on any longer. On a positive note I have to say that in spite of my poor health (the pain and the lack of energy) I have a better life now than I ever did whilst I was working. I married late in life, 10 years ago, and i am able to enjoy the company of my husband who is my rock (although he is 10 years older than me and doesn't have much energy either so we just muddle along together....the house is a tip!!!!) and my 2 lovely dogs and 2 cats. I did have 3 cats but sadly my old girlie passed away in September and I miss her very much. I know all this probably isn't of much help or comfort to you, but I hope it helps you to know that you are not alone. You might be able to explore getting some help for your back in case this is causing your groin pain. Keep in touch and take care. Love and hugs. XX

Hi Saskia,

Congratulations on finding someone to share your life with, it isn't easy trying to cope alone with

a debilitating illness of fibromyalgia and arthritis, even if it's just to have a shoulder to cry on or someone to offload to.

I have osteoarthritis in my hands, neck, lower back and now I think it's going into my knees as it's very painful to walk upstairs. My house is also a tip and it's embarrassing when anyone comes to visit, which isn't often, and i keep apologising for the mess.

I have to go back to doctors' next week if the pain in my groin and thighs hasn't gone, but he did say that he didn't think it was a DVT, which hadn't occurred to me, but he said the pain may also be linked to the back pain which I have.

Anyway thanks for your kind wishes.

Being a fibro-veteran as my hubby calls me I can safely say yes this is part of it, and us poor ladies also get vulval pain too(as part of fibro) if you have not had that already, well that really does hurt xxxxx

Oh well all i can say is "Bring It On", we all seem to get everything thrown at us, but we take it brush ourselves down and then move onto whatever else is ready to raise it's ugly head at us!

Hi bonnielass, thanks for responding to me. Like you I have trouble getting up and down the stairs especially when carrying things....arthritis in knees which give way and occasionally my left ankle gives way too! I would never have thought of a DVT but at least your GP has and has ruled it out. You have enough to deal with without something potentially life threatening like that to contend with. Let's hope he can get to the bottom of why you are getting the groin pain. I know just how painful it is and at least if you know what is causing it it is somehow a bit easier to accept and live with as at least you aren't worrying about what it could be all the time. I am so glad that I am not the only one with a house like a tip! I get very embarrassed too, especially when anyone knocks on the door unexpectedly as they did earlier this evening! We have new neighbours and the lady needed some advice. She must have been horrified when she stepped into our hall as the carpet is covered in dog hair and mud that we have all trodden in. I haven't the energy to vacuum every day. God only knows what she must have thought....... lol! I can laugh now, writing to you, but I was cringing at the time. I hope you get on well at your GP's appt. next week. I'll be thinking of you. Keep in touch and let us all know how you get on. Take great care of yourself. Love and very gentle hugs. Saskia.

groin and thigh pain suffering as we speak i have been back an forward to my gp with this problem for nearly a year the pain can be so severe at times im not sleeping at the moment either as my legs are restless and the pain is so bad im currently taking zapain which is morphine ive been told the groin and thigh pain comes from a trapped nerve due to being overweight i have an appointment in the pain clinic in january to have injections in my groin but i am not convinced this is the answer or the problem as i have violent lower stomach pains when i get grion and thigh pain im just so fed up with being in constant pain i began to think it was in my head but reading this post i now know others out there are suffering the same thing . amiejo x

Hi joed,

Thanks for answering my question on pain in groin and thighs.

I am sorry you are having the same problems, as it really is so painful and gets you down. Just like you and lots of others, i was also fed up thinking it was "all in my head", but unfortunately fibro is a never ending list of ailments

Yesterday i developed another sinus infection and my mouth, ears teeth and right cheek bone is so painful. Instead of going to the doctors to be pumped with another course of antibiotics, i am going to the chemist to buy some menthol crystals and so hopefully these will ease it off.

I hope your appointment at pain clinic in January gives you some relief.

I found them to be really helpful and so understanding, in fact after years of going from one doctor to rheumatologist, it was pain management doctor who diagnosed fibro, i was so relieved because at last i had someone who believe that i really was ill, in fact i could have kissed him.

I attended several pain management meetings, where they discussed types of pain relief and also showed how to pace yourself and stop when pain kicked in. They also advised to take pain meds regularly and not to wait until the pain kicked in. So hopefully you will be offered this.

Take Care

Gentle Hugs
