I vaguely remember that,I think the person rang up their energy provider, there was some sort of thing they had in place, check that and also the council like kilts mentioned, hope that helps..x

I too can't remember the exact name something like warm home, but every energy provider does it.. Log on to your suppliers website and look for warm home and basically if you are on dla and income support or job seekers allowance or i think ESA you qualify for 130 pounds put into your account in march 2013 , I know I checked with my suppliers and we weren't eligible but check cos it's great if you do qualify.

Hi, yes there is an entitlement for ESA also - I had £130 deducted from my bills last March and will receive the same in March 2013.

only thing about this warm home discount is it comes off your electricity bill not your gas bill. dont know about anyone else but i am in front with my electricity bill by over 160 pounds. so even without that 130 quid i was still in front. but my gas bill was sky high. typical of todays carry on.. why cant they take out of whichever bill is the highest. result is my gas has gone up from £36 to £63/ only thing British gas could do is reduce my electricity monthly payments.to 22 quid from 32quid. a big help though i still have to find an extra £17 a month.means i have had to stop going on outings except for shopping.outings where i didnt need to get out of a car(not mine, i dont drive) if it was too wet, windy,or cold. now im governed by the weather and having someone to go with me.cant just get out have a wee walk then back into the warmth.simply cannot afford it as i have to pay for whatever fuel is used to take me out.

When I phoned British Gas, I was told the reason they apply the discount automatically to your electric account is because some people only have electric for their heating but that once the grant comes through you can ring them and request they transfer the grant to your gas account instead. I'm so glad about the previous post about this as i had no idea I could get help with my heating bills, its going to be a huge help :)

I'm not sure, but if you pay your energy bills by Direct Debit, and you are in credit for say £50-£100, can you take that money out and then put it into your gas bill.

I know they used to send you a cheque if you were in credit with either bill, but not sure if they still do it.

I have a small electric heat pad which i put on my lower back whilst lying on the sofa and a blanket which i crochet, and i also put my dressing gown on top of my everyday clothes, and i find this keeps me warm, and i don't have to put my heating up high.

Thank you soooo much for this info. I called my provider (British Gas) and I am eligible for the £130 payment. Because I have both my electric and gas by the same supplier, if I'm in front with my electric and have money owing on my gas they have said they wld be happy to transfer it :). Without this site and its wonderful members I wld of had no idea about this help :) x
