Tis is exactly the problem I have that's why i know. Will never hold down a job again,,,, if I know I have to get up the next day for anything... Dentist gp... Even though the alarm is set I can't sleep ..in case I oversleep in case I can't get where ever I am going , if I have a flare up whereever I am and make myself worse... So you can feel proud of yourself for going to uni cos you are making an effort to get on with your life no matter how hard

My total respect to you

Hugs VG x

Hi there. I find when I can't sleep not to force it... For me, putting on an old musical on dvd tends to knock me out... As does Night Nurse! VG, and I hear you re. Not sleeping in case you miss an appointment to etc.

I have this problem too. I have started to spray my pillow with a lavender mist spray, water bottle in and i have 2 x amitriptilene about an hour before i go to bed. I only finished work this year, due to my condition and i know what you mean about being frightened about oversleeping. It now takes me a long time to come round in the morning and if i have an appointment at say 9 i have to wake up at 6 to give me time to come round etc. i am very stiff in the mornings and i have to do things very slowly indeed however my cats are creatures of habit and between 6 and 7 they appear on my bed and keep nudging me till i start to get up. I am on lots of tablets but only reccently started the amitriptilene and they help a little. I NEVER seem to go into a deep sleep any more - i do sleep lightly and i get up 3/4 times in the night to go to the loo or change position in bed etc. hope you feel a little better and get some rest x

Try and take pain killers an hour before you go to bed and i also find a hot bath also helps. I have been doing meditation body scan for some time and i find that helps too. But pain and sleep really don't go together.

Hi WEEmee & verygrumpy (love the name ) great minds eh lol.

I have exactly the same problem, find it so hard to fall asleep but when I do I will be awake 2 hrs later - trying to find a comfortable position - tossing and turning then just as I fall asleep I need to move duh.

If I have to go out to visit doctors dentist etc (dont go out socially now) I cant sleep at all and am awake all night.

My doctor prescribed Gabapentin and the first few days I actually had sleep for about 5 hrs but now I seemed to have gone back to 2 hrs again. Doctor upped the dosage today so hopefully I may sleep better.

I have just lost my appeal for esa so think this is also affecting me now-no matter how I try to stop worrying I cant get it out of my head (when my new claim will be paid , how to pay the rent etc ) so my heart goes out to you. I also have sinusitis so as soon as I lay down the polyps block my nose and laying on my back is a no-no have Gerd and chostochondritis so getting a position to sleep is virtually impossible.

Try asking your doctor if they would try prescribing the Gabapentin - its worth a go . I did used to take Mirtazapine and they would help me sleep but the effects the day after made the fibro fog a lot worst.

I now have bought an electric blanket and have that on low after having a bath & taking my painkillers-have tried hypno and pink noise - now Im trying a fibro Neuro-linguistic program.

As bbstport says coming around in the morning is dreadful - I am exactly the same I have to be up several hours before attending an appointment.

It seems we all suffer exactly the same.

My doctor told me today I will probably never get back to work as I also have facet arthritis in the spine but according to my appeal I m fit and well for work !!!! when I tried to sign on for Jsa I was told because of my illnesses I cannot sign on for Jsa and have to reclaim for Esa. I wish these people would live our lives and see how this affects our quality of life.

Be careful taking any herbal remedies, ask your doctor first as they can interfere with other medications. I will try the night nurse tho lol.

Luv in hugs (gently) to everyone xx

Hi. Not sure what age you are, but you must not let this problem spoil your life. Uni is a special time, and hopefully, will help you in future years to come. I am sorry to say, regards the non sleep situation, its difficult...but I have disturbed sleep every night, due to the pain, etc. but Life goes on.xx

Hi all thanks for your comments and support. I am a 41 year old who is a full time student and I also work 30 hrs a week and have 2 beautiful daughters 3 and 11 years and a good supportive husband. At present due to medical neglience where I have had to have surgery on my leg to have a plate and pins put in. I am off sick and have my leg in plaster at the moment. I am on quite a lot of pain medication and thank you all for you input and opinions. I do wish the amount of medication I am on could reduce and I am lucky to have a GP in is working with me to reduce my medication. The amount of pain medication I am on is enough to knock out a horse and now appears to have no effect on my pain threshold. At present I take Amtripyline 50mg, Pregablin 50mg 3x daily, Tramadol 2x50 upto 4 times daily and Co-codamol 30/500mg x2 upto 4 x daily. I am a positive individual whom is trying really hard to not give into this terrible condition I have polymygrlia Rheumatica and secondary Fibromygrlia so you can imagine trying to hope about on crutches at moment is very difficult, so I do try to push myself very hard sometimes. I do try natural relaxation techniques, bath before bed, milky drink. I did still manage to go to uni alert somehow although I did only manage to get 2 hrs sleep. I am a qualified counsellor and completing a final year for my BA Hons. I sometimes overdo it and this causes me to have a number of very sleepless nights. Which yesterday was one of them. I thank you all again love and hugs xx V

Hi weeme. You sound like you have an overloaded plate. I'm not surprised you're not sleeping.. it might be that your med cocktail is the problem. Stress and toxins are major triggers for me to lose sleep. Just a thought x I've managed to find a Sub lingual melatonin for occasional insomnia at iherb. I sometimes use half a tablet if I really need to sleep. I had a course of melatonin years ago to try and correct my circadian.rhythm. I struggle to fall asleep plus struggle to wake up.

It's amazing you are able to do sooo much. I'd love to be studyiing again (even at 50) and heading back towards a career.....x good luck with it all x
