I came accross this by chance as i had some months ago tried to sign my dad up for the 2nd year of this. I then came home and checked with my gas/electricity supplier and i actually
can claim this myself so i did it on line. £130 will be credited against my electricity account by the end of March 2013 so i am able to use more in the winter and not be afraid of doing so.
Does anyone else have this ? apparantly this is the 2nd year it has been running

yes you do needc to be in receipt of certain things however if you go online to your electricity supplier and look at the scheme it lists it all there for you - i am with scottish power and you actually apply on line x
We applied because of our sons eligability ages ago however nobody seemed to know how this was to be implemented as it was a government initiative ....I think if it actually kicks in then great however I am not personally banking on it
Months ago when the local autism group sent us the info...I think it was march...hubby needs to talk to supplier and was going to ask whats happened with it..

I think the trouble is the suppliers were not actually sure on the eligibilty for it themselves and people were just told to apply...I think the demand is far greater than the gov had antisipated
I wasn't eligible and neither was my sister who I live with even though we're both on DLA and I'm on Incapacity and she's on ESA Income-based. We had to be on more than just this
Some suppliers offer the discount to vulnerable people (eg, those on a low income). Each supplier has their own rules about who else can get the discount. Click here to see if your supplier can help you -
My pleasure, the info is quite sketchy - I think the best thing to do if there is any doubt would be to contact your energy supplier to see if they can help you. It's a bit of a minefield typically.
Hi I am on working tax credit..work 30 hours a week with a struggle..:-(..would I be able 2 claim for it? I have a son living home with me he is on a low wage aswell and due 2 go in to hospital for a op and will be home from work anything between 6 and 8 months..also claims a little w/tax credit..
I think we didn't get it because we are with E-ON. I contacted British gas last year and went through some complicated figures with them but needed to switch first before they could guarantee we were eligible. Have also seen that we would be eligible with Scottish Power so maybe need to switch. It's just that these may have higher tariffs than E-ON, and I've not got the mental energy for going through all the comparisons. What are other people's experiences with companies? Maybe you can say which providers have been helpful. Many thanks
to my knowledge all companys offer it and i am with Scottish Power and my dad who is 85 is with British gas and i find both of these companys very helpfull indeed - hope this helps you
I'm going to ring them in a minute, I'm with British Gas and it looks as though I might qualify! This would make a huge difference as I'm really struggling financially at the moment.
Just phoned british Gas, and I have qualified! Thankyou so much for posting this, otherwise I never would have known. I got it because of low income and being on ESA. You are a star! X
congratulations on been able to qualify and i would not have known anything if it was not for me claiming for my dad - its weird as i almost did not put this on as i thought people may think i was a bit daft and should have known about it - how many more of my Fibro Friends didnt know and check it out and find they qualify !! so glad i put it on now x
Didn't Brit Gas insist that you switch first, bbfreak? When we phoned them last year they said we probably would qualify but they couldn't promise it until we switched
Hi, I am already with British Gas, just didn't realise I was entitled to anything. They are so naughty trying to make you switch before they could promise you. X
Exactly! So I ended up not switching because had been with them before and when I left them they kept housing me with phone calls on both landline and mobile to come back to them! Like that was going to work! They still try it sometimes. But if they want us back, they can lure us with the discount! x
Thank you bbstport! I am so hppy you blogged on this yesterday I checked on line and because I am on esa and live on my own I can have it! I also get dla at the low rate. I didn't know anything about this before. I just rang and had to give a bit of information and she said I could have it ! I'm delighted....thank you very much that will be a life saver this winter xxxx
Sorry got carried away there and forgot to tell you they have automatically put me forward for next year and put me on a priority list if there are any blackouts , I will be reconnected first. Thank you again : ) xxxx
fantastic news i hope the blog has helped many of my fibro friends x
Contact your suppliers folks even if you think you might not be eligible, hopefully you will be lucky. It's one of those things that doesn't land in your lap, we have to apply for it. We need all the help we can get don't we.
Best of luck to everyone! Check out the links higher up on this thread for contact info and the process etc.
Hi bbsport, thanks for this blog. I got the discount last year, but on receiving my application for this year with EDF energy, I realised they've changed the eligibility criteria. Last year, I got it just being on ESA, but as kirby says, you have to be getting something else as well to qualify now. I think you have to be in the "Support group" of ESA and Im not because Ive not been assessed yet. They do everything they can to create loopholes. I'll apply anyway and see what happens
Thanks for clarifying that, bumblebee. We definitely couldn't get it last year with E-on. It could be as you say that my sister was migrated to ESA-WRAG but now she's in the Support Group so may be eligible. I wasn't eligible on Incap. We're both on DLA low rate but both benefits weren't enough
yes i phoned up asking for a form because i'm on benefits, had a letter back saying i qualified for the warm home discount,i thought great for the first time it was easy to apply and get without the bother like we all get off ATOS.Do we get a heating allowance off cameron if on disability?loads of love jacksiex
I am on the wrag group but I get it. Maybe because I live on my own? I don't know. I do know different energy companies have different criteria. I am with British Gas for both electricity and gas. xx
