Thanks for asking this question Amanda I was wondering the same thing and will await Beths mail. I haven't been referred and am hanging on in there.
At my pain clinic appt filled in a form went to see consultant and he said for my neck and shoulders which are deffinately a problem he recommended trigger point injections have them every 3 months and they are amazing..
Thanks Beth,I look forward to your reply! x
verygrumpy, did he want to know about the medication you already took?
I have been refered to a pain management course. So far I have had my meds reviewed to help with sleep, given gentle exercises to do and been given some reading. The course itself involves gentle physio, cognitive therapy, meditation and Pilates as well as other stuff to help us cope with every day life. I have only done the introductory bit so far, the main part of the course starts after Christmas and is run by a doctor, physio and therapist. I am really looking forward to it! Hope that helps and good luck with yours. Jane x
thanks x
im still waiting after five months x
Hi Amanda
I went to pain clinic 6 June. Consultant checked my triger points & agreed I have Fibro. He then went on to lecture me that Medication is not always the answer. He claims it comes from my depression & it & pain just go round in a vicious circle.
I was a bit annoyed at that as I feel my depression is under control. He said he would refer me to a pain management course which is held at a local hospita. He told me I wkuld attend 2 days a week for 5 weeks to learn how to fight pain with exercise. I feel a bit bewilledered coz I can imagine doing exercise when in so much pain.
My GP referred me to physio after a bad spell with my back, groin & hip pain. I went yezterday for the first. I was asked a load of questions & had some hands on theraly. I can now say I feel a lot sorer today for it. I feel I can hardly move & I am in such pain.
Good luck.
Luv & Hugs
Jackie
Hi
I attended a pain management course last year and I can honestly say it has been one of the best things I have done in regards to my fibro.it was a month long course and we covered allsorts of areas in relation to pain management.it was in a group setting and we saw physios, fibro nurses, rhemotologist and councillors.I went with the mindset that they were goung to show me how to reduce my pain but what we actually learnt was how to get the most out of life whilst living with pain.I hope you get as much benefit as I did.big gentle hugs x
Huh! fat lot of good that was!!! I spent less than ten minutes in the Drs room.He barked questions at me then informed me that "there's no cure for fibromyalgia you know" I was so annoyed that I grumpily said "I Know" He looked sneeringly at my crutches (I use gutter crutches because I can't put weight through my hands) and said "I don't mind you having crutches, but use elbow ones" well pardon me! then he had a go because I had been told by physio to stop my hand exercises because of the pain,he wasn't happy.Anyway he said to stop taking Amiltriptaline and gave me Lyrica to take and said he doesn't want to see me again! charming,so much for long term support and pain management!!
Hi I now its an old question but my pain management solutions as they like to call them selves teach you how to do safe streching exersizes ad strengthening excersises also relaxation tecnecs, how to pace your self I find it very interesting as I can't do many of the exersises but hope I will be able to do more in the future, hope this goes some small way to answering your question if not then mabe someone else will be able to .
