As promised, just a quick update, eye specialist has said that the vitrous sack has detatched from back of eye, (sounds worse than it is) no damage to retina as yet but I got to be rechecked in four weeks. Not a pleasant proceedure and feeling sick and can't see properly. I can fly on holiday though. which is great news

Ohhh yuk, don't envy you that one! Still at least you can still go on your hols - have a really lovely time xx
Oh Devonlady, that's a relief that you have been given the ok to fly. Try to enjoy your holiday and not worry too much about your eye treatment to follow. The diagnosis could have been a lot worse, so thank goodness. Take care.
Ah the bliss of knowing i can have my holiday. I have had all the paperwork read to me know and what it boils down to is that from the age of 21 the fluid that is in the eye starts to seperate from the optic nerve, it continues to do this all your life and if your lucky this happens little by little ad no damage is done to the retina. If like me a big bit breaks away at once you can get the damage to the retina and that is not good as means posible operation or lazer surgery.
Althought I have been given the ok to fly the specialist has said that you cannot always see the damage straight away so has given me the necessary paperwork so that if the symptoms worsten I can go straight to hospital and then they can save the sight in the eye. Hmm not sure I like the idear of that happening abroad but life is full of risks, could fall and break my toe abroad like I have done before.
I have also to go back and have the eye rechecked in four weeks, not looking forward to that as I am squemish about the eyes and blooming hurt. Had to be assisted home and still can't see out of bad eye but at least unlike this time the next apt he will only be checking the poorly eye, phew. It has sent my virtigo bonkers as well which is horrible as feeling very sick.
Well tomaorrow is another day and hopefully a no sickness day. Hope this further explination helps you understand and thank goodness it is not neuritis. always a bright side.
Just a word of encouragement from someone who had the enevitable retinal detachment you think might be a risk - I'ts really not too painful, the laser, should it happen, and it only takes a few seconds of actally having the laser shone into the eye - and do not be afraid to approach any doctors over there if you are worried, as the quicker it is sorted out the better, should it happen.
I kept my hospital busy (eye A/E) on New Years eve with it, guiltily apologising, and was told that any good eye doctor would rather work over the odds saving someones sight than be at home making a patient wait with the possibility of blindness. Make sure you can find a hosp A/E father than GP if possible, and pref one with an eye A/E. The hosp in Sheffield has one, but not sure about abroad.
I imagine the odd vision you are having is where the vitreuous is bending the light a bit weird whist it is detatching? I had flashing lights when the detachment happened, but whist the vitreous detatched, I would get odd effects that my doctor told me were visual migraines (good job I didn't go to him when the flashing started). You enjoy your holiday though. Let us know how it went
