I've posted my first DLA form - what happens next?

Hello I've taken the plunge and posted my DLA form - did not think I would be able to take the stress - how long will I have to wait for my 'medical'? Any information would be helpful so that I know what to expect.

Thank you.

Thanks for this - are you going to appeal?

I had about 8 week wait no medical either just gave the names of my dr and hospital consultants and got awarded lowest care rate... That takes me through to June next year. I have deteriorated so I hope I will get more next time but not really hopeful from what I have read on here.

I had no idea that DLA could be awarded without having a medical. This is good news for me. Around 2 months to go then...... Thank you.

I'm afraid it is just a waiting game so try not to stress about it as that will give you more illness. I got DLA and I didnt have a medical. I think I waited about 6 weeks. Good luck with your claim and let us all know how you get on. Sue xx

sent off in feb, received 2 letters 8 days later 1 saying i not allowed any of it and the other saying they were getting info from drs etc? strange i know, sent appeal off in march and letter came back saying because of such a backlog of appeals they will contact me in 27 to 31 weeks with a decision on appeal date, so expecting sometime in December another letter from them, good luck :)

That's good news.

The ESA is very difficult - I am trying to get into the support group where I should have been in the first place.

What happens next? You wait for a reply, you'll possibly be turned down, if you are ask for a reconsideration, that often does the trick. If you get turned down again appeal and this time expect to have to wait quite a while. Have never had a DLA medical - just an IB one; have been awarded ESA a few weeks ago but no sign of a medical with ATOS as yet

In Northern Ireland its usually around 12 weeks you wait but they always write to you informing you of what stage they are at. You dont get a medical as such. They usually contact your Dr for a report on you or send one of their own Drs out to you who will ask questuins about your illness & ask to sed your medications.

Good luck
