I kinda think it's the luck of the draw to a certain extent. If you get ill through no fault of your own, not smoking, drinking or dangerous sports causing them, well who's to blame?
My mother-in-law is 82 & has alzhimers. She has been bed-ridden since breaking a hip, & is so pitifully thin she looks like a victim of Belsen. She does not know anything of her surroundings & has not known us for many years. Hers is not a life but an existence.
Our niece's partner is dying from leukaemia age 40 with an 18mth old son, so sad.
My husbands aunt on the other hand is 91 & walks (with a frame) faster than me! She also does the daily paper crossword. (No fibro fog there!)
Who/what decides who gets what on the ability/length of life front? & before someone says it I don't believe it's God! I think when your time is up, your time is up no matter what. But I can't work out why some people have a charmed life & others constant pain.
On a more cheerful note I heard on the local radio yesterday a couple celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. She was 89 & he 93. They still do their own cooking, shopping & go swimming every week! Hope they both get their telegrams from the Queen............& theres another remarkable lady!
Gentle hugs to all. xx
