Hello Sparkydawl. It's not unusual for physiotherapy to be mentioned initially. I went for a couple of physio sessions until the Physiotherapist realised I was in far too much pain to even move let alone perform an exercise! It was then that I was referred by my GP to a Rheumatologist.
I would suggest that you ask your Doctor for a referral to a Rheumatologist, sometimes we have to be direct and say exactly what we are after as some Doctors just don't seem to get the point with our Fibro sadly. I assume you haven't seen a Rheumatologist yet?! Hopefully if you get your referral you should be on the right track. Best of luck to you!
ty libbyde im going to ask to be refered as after the carry on of that doctor yesterday making me do things that hurt i awoke today and was crying with the pain in my neck, can hardly move top half of my body as it is causing me unbelievable pain in my neck and spine,my other 2 docs are brilliant one of them is one of the few docs in scotland that actually deals with fibro to its full extent as he goes on all the courses and such that there is and he also believes in trying things that will help fibro other than just the usul like amatriptolene and stuff, it just so happns he is on holiday at the moment xx
Hi there,
I think doctors are frightened by things they don't understand, so they suggest the most harmless ( if useless!) treatment they can think of.
My GP decided that prescribed exercise was the answer to my problem, so off I went to the local gym where the strapping Amazon of an instructor said she would start me 'light and low'.
That was fifteen minutes on the treadmill, fifteen on the static bicycle and fifteen on the rowing machine followed by some warm down exercises.
I fell off the treadmill half-way through, and altho' I felt rather good and euphoric, I could hardly move at all! An ambulance was called - much hilarity - and off I went to A&E.
Of course they found nothing, but I still couldn't move, so they scanned me in the 'thinking doughnut' Still nothing except for arthritis in my neck - which I knew about.
After nearly an hour I started to be able to move and could stand up. I felt they were all rather cross that nothing could be found, and were still scratching their heads when I left!
I was still pain free, and remained so, albeit rather shaky, until the next day, when pain returned with a vengeance.
I have learned a lesson from this; NEVER overdo exercise. On the other hand, gentle movements like ballet stretches, done slowly, definitely help - so I'm sticking with that, plus walking for twenty minutes daily if I can manage it.
On a bad day when I'm too stiff and sore to do anything, I lie on my bed and IMAGINE that I am running joyfully through the countryside, and for some reason this makes me feel no end better.
I call this P.M.I. - Positive Mental Imaging, and it works for me, so maybe I'll be famous one day ...NOT!
Anyway, never give up the struggle to find something that suits you, and big hugs and best wishes to all.

A gp you click with is so important when you have chronic health problems, and even though she may not be doing anything wrong if it doesn't feel right to you perhaps worth trying to see a different dr either within the same practice or another? When we moved here 4 years ago ended up with 3rd time lucky, and I cant tell you how much it helps to have someone I can really talk too, and she never makes me feel like a waste of her time! Good luck.
iv tried physio a couple of times and i always feel worse after it so a bit worried about trying again, im glad that u have found something tha helps you and hopefuly i will 2 lol, some doctors just dont have the good bedside manner that they rally need and should never have become a doctor in the first place soft hugs xx
i know what u mean tulip we have 3 doctors in our surgery the 1 thas not been there long whom i saw the other day and dont like and 2 male doctors whom i usually see my doctors are very good and have always been there for me ven if its only to talk to, from now on im just going to refuse to see the woman doctor, my partner is the same he says he would never go back to her either, soft hugs xx
