gabapentin cold turkey.

hi guys im going cold turkey coming off my gabpentin for a while tonight and so not looking forward to it.

i go on it for a month or so and then it gives me serious headaches and ice picks headaches so i have to come off them for a bit.but its seriously like going cold turkey.and so not nice.

one person once said and another site that it was like a person coming off drugs.i dont no how that feels but have a good idea.

its dreadful and i end up ratty,very irritable and dont sleep again at all.

im gonna ask my nice g,p to put me on something else.

he just keeps saying its the only thing strong enough for me.

yeah i agree but ive had a severe headache all day and now its going and we have neighbours who are drilling and banging now they arent english.

they are rude and nasty people.

so yeah guys this medicine is great but be aware it comes with alot of side effects and some arent nice and if you stop its much much worse.

Good luck! Cold turkey really sucks! And yes, this can be the same/similar when coming off prescription meds suddenly as an illegal-drug-addict coming off their fix.

The optimum treatment of Fibro requires a multidisciplinary approach, with both medications (often more than one) and non-medication treatments. And different people respond differently to different meds. So I'm really not sure about your doc saying there is no other med strong enough - even if you have tried and already ruled out all the stronger meds, a combination of other meds or meds plus non-medication treatments could well help you.

I don't think anyone has ever tried everything to treat their Fibro as the possible combinations are so huge.

For those members reading this and thinking about coming off meds - only do this with doctor supervision as sammy38 is doing! Going cold turkey on many meds is horrible and it can sometimes be risky.

I don't think you gave the impression that anyone should come off mere without talking to go. Does your gp know that you go cold turkey? It can be dangerous to do that with gabapentin. Sorry don't mean to lecture you I am just concerned for your my gp changed me from gabapentin to pregablin which is supposed to be the newer treatment take care Sue x

Don't worry - I understood! I just wanted to make extra clear that going cold turkey should only be done as you are doing - under doctor supervision. It's not a good thing to do if you don't have to!

Read this late.my g.p does know about this.hes not happy but wont give me anythibg else.

My father inlaw to be is a retired bio chemist and he worrys abt these meds.

Im being monitored very carefully by both.

And wouldnt suggest this method to anyone ever.

Hunny try not to come off cold turkey PLEASE. Its HELL!!!!!! Ive done it with gabapentin. I had to get back on them quick. Ask ur doc for Topirimate. U have to wean off 1 and on to other at same time, biut its worth it coz they are great. Good Luck. Marshmallow hugs xxxxx
