Gut spasms.

Hi everyone, does any of you lovely people suffer with gut/bowel pain, spasms, discomfort? Some days my guts feel like they are tied in knots. My gp put me on Mebeverine tablets at first thinking I had (IBS) I'm still taking the meds 20 minutes before eating 3 x daily but through the night it can be very distressing. Any advice would be apreciated. xx

hi finlay, i would go back to see your gp if the meds aren't working there are a number of other anti spasms that work. i take buscapan.

i go and lie as low as i can when my stomach hurts, but it could be that you are laying to low and you need to prop your self up a bit. i am also carefully not to eat too late and what i drink before bed time, i find personally a cup of tea settles my tum better than coffee, when ever i am unwell i can only drink tea , they do say tea is more beneficial. but either way your gp needs to rule out any other condition that could be causing this, he wont know that the meds are working if you dont see him and theres no need to suffer any more than needs to

Thank you for the advice poppy, I will definitely mention it when I go back to see my gp. I will also try propping myself up to see if that helps.

Hugs back to you xx

IBS should never be diagnosed without thorough testing as the symptoms can be similar to those of far more serious conditions. Your GP needs to refer you to a gastroenterologist.

Hi, I have very similar problems and its no fun. I have found digestive enzymes with each meal brings great relief. I alao do a colon cleanse and parasite cleanse (not nasty at all) and this helps too.

Do hope you can get yourself sorted. O and a hot water bottle works wonders too.

Lots of love

Hi puppdogs, it's kind of you to take the time to reply, it makes me feel a bit better knowing someone else has similar gut symptoms to me (not that i'm happy you are suffering) I did get a colon cleanse from Holland and Barrett. I havent used it yet because I didn't want to make my symptoms worse but might try it now to see if it helps. i use a hot water bottle on my back pain so will also try it on my tummy. Are your symptoms due to fibro or do you suffer with IBS or similar problems?

Love and hugs x

Hi Finlay. nice to hear from you. I think the fibro came first, but who knows with this weird and wonderful disease.I certainly find the digestive enzymes help and notice the difference if I stop taking them. Trouble is all these things we take are so ....expensive. I've had fibro and Me for 13 years but with hindsight (a wonderful thing!) I think it has been lurkind there in the background waiting for the opportunity to arrise.Let me know how you get on, I'd really like to know.

Love and hugs and tummy rubs

I thought it was strange to treat me for IBS in the first place without investigation. I think the idea was to control the gut pain discomfort until they could find out what was wrong with me!! Now many months later they say that all my symptoms point to fm so it will be interesting what the consultant says today when I mention it to him. ( I don't have any other symptoms of IBS) other than gut pain hence I have always doubted that I have it. Thanks for the advice Lyndsey, it's such a worry - hopefully shoul know more later today :) x

Hi my GP diagnosed me without sending me to any speciallist i jus told her my symptons over the course of 3/4 months and she put me on medication and it is easing my daughter was the same and she is at different surgery in different towmn so most GP s can diagnose IBS without sending you to Gastroenterologist It seems to be quite a easy one for GP to diagnose it is just getting the medication fopr each patient right that is the problem my daughter had a bit of trial and error with her meds mine was right choice from the start aperpepidine ane and eppermint capsules love to you Diddle x

I know, it's strange how gp's from different parts of the country deal with things differently. My only symptom is gut spasms which makes me think I havent got IBS, it's probably all to do with the fibro as I've heard it can cause bowel problems too!!!

I have also taken a peppermint capsule today - so far so good.

Thanks for the good wishes for yesterday, it was a relief to talk to the Rheumatologist at long last :) it's good to know people care xx

I remember being sent to a doctor for an endoscopy re spasms/IBS but he decided not to do one because he said in his opinion, the problem I was pointing to was in the wrong are :( I thought he should have checked anyway just to rule it out but he didn't - I remember leaving there feeling bewildered and frustrated - I do agree that we should be tested. x

HI Finley,

Having had IBS for many years ( hospital investigation ) I became quite a recluse as I never knew when a bout would hit and I've tried everything on the market will no results.

I now take Dioctyl ( Docusate Sodium ) on repeat prescription and this keeps my system steady and I don't tend to get the cramps any more.

IBS is caused when the bowel becomes blocked so that part of your poo is solid and part is liquid.

Dioctyl keeps the stools soft so it is easier to go to the toilet and keeps everything operating relatively smoothly ~ I swear by them, and, the meds we take for FMS can make us constipated.

I specifically asked my GP for them and Result!!!

There's no harm in trying them for yourself and you can get them over the counter called Ducloease if you want to try them first.

Hope they help you as well as they have helped me.

Hugs Ren Robin x

Thanks, thats great I will buy some from the chemist today (I'm willing to try anything) I generally dont have a problem going to the loo. I dont get constipated then loose like the normal IBS sufferer but I will definitely try them for the spasms.

All these little bits of information are so helpful, I'm grateful that your all out there to help.

Thanks again with hugs xx
