You use the mobility component towards a car. Some Motability companies will have details of how much each car costs - some I believe are less than the full amount and some are more (I may be wrong as it is a long time since I had to look at this!).
I am going to look at a car today. I am really excited as I have been practically house bound since my old car "died". It will take all of my mobility money but not the care component. I was amazed at the choice of cars available on this scheme. I was sent a motability pack which has all the info I needed. xxx
I HAVE HAD ONE FOR PAST THREE YEARS NEARLY, TOMOROW I TEST DRIVE MY NEXT ONE, WOOHOO XXX
Yes i have had my mobility car for nearly 3 years and its my life saver yes it takes all your money but you become a bit more independant and no worries about the upkeep.
you will enjoy it choose wisely for your needs

Thank you everyone you have been a big help hugs poppy xx
I would be lost without my Motability car.
Because of the car I chose I had to make an advance payment of £750 and it also takes up my full weekly mobility allowance.
However, there are many cars which you can get with no advance payment and some which cost less than the total week's mobility allowance.
If you are prepared to wait, you will be able to choose your car to your own specifications.
However, we were desperate to get a car as soon as possible so were forced to cough up for a car which was available immediately - but had some extra features that weren't really necessary for us. And we had to settle for a petrol model when we would have preferred a diesel.
Next time we hope to get exactly what we want at the right price as we will have time to shop around.
Even with Motability, garages try and get as much money out of you as they can!
I too have a mobility car and I am due to change mine this year.
I have a VW Touran at the moment which ost me £799 but I am going for either a Chevrolete Cruze or the Seat Leon this time.
When you sign up for a Motability car or power wheelchair/scooter, you will pay (in many instances) a deposit. You will then not receive either all or most of your mobility component of DLA a this will be paid direct to Motability. You will need to have 3 years worthof DLA before you qualify for Motabillity. You don't need to worry about Car Tax, Insurance, Breakdown Cover, Servicing during the period of your lease.
