i'm thinking of having a car on mobility,i have only 12 months left and i'm worried that

mobility allowance will be stopped next year.I use my partners car at the moment but i think i need one in my name, because we aren't attached in the sense as Boyfriend and Girlfriend, hate that description, anyway has anyone any ideas.Shall i carry on or take the mobility way and risk them taking it back leaving me helpless, you see they may think because the cars parked outside my house the majority of the time and i have full access, that he lives here.jacksiex

Jacksie, there is one thing I hang on to for grim death it is my car. So my advice would be go for it get your own little car to be able to go where you want if you need to is wonderful. I have a Mini country man from Lloyd Mini in carlisle they look after your every need and sort the mobility out for you :) Good luck xgins

The thing would be to ensure that his car isn't parked outside at all because they are quite strict on this and do run checks on Mobility cars Jacksie. Then you are independently entitled to your own Mobility car. Regarding the future, no-one knows what will happen and worst case scenario, if you are still with your boyfriend then his car can be parked outside your house again and used as before. Hope that makes sense. xxx

Jacksie if ur thinking off getting a car on motability u need 2 have at least 3 yrs left to run on ur high rate mobility otherwise they wont let u lease 1 through them. It doesnt matter if ur boyfriend has his car parked at urs r not because on high rate mobility ur entitled 2 car for ur own use r 4 someone 2 drive a car on ur behalf but only 4 ur use. I hope that makes sense to you, I know what I'm trying to say but not sure if its coming across right x

I understand what your saying nanaana, apparently i thought the same.I was awarded high rate for 2 years,if i have 12 months left on award i can have a car for the 12 months left,i can't work it out,it was always 3 years, that's the reason i'm asking whether it's worth it or not, because the next review they could take it all away. The car has to be returned anyway after 12 months, don't know if i should leave it and wait see what happens on next time round,if i get to keep DLA or not, there is a great uncertainty with the every day media running anykind of benefits down.thankyoujacksiex

My understanding has always been that you can get a car as long as you have 12 months left on your award. My worry has always been if you have problems getting your DLA renewed, I've had to fight to keep my high rate mobility a couple of times but do have a Motability car now as my old car got towed for scrap just over a year ago, so just keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to keep driving in future.

unless it has changed recently, it's a clear 12 months minimum.

I live in Northern Ireland and know that here u have 2 have at least 3 yrs on ur high rate mobility r they won't even consider letting u have a car. There contract is 3 yr lease hire agreement and they don't consider anything less. Copdber if u get dla and are awarded high rate mobility for at least 3 yrs you can exchange ur award in return for lease of a car with insurance paid for 2 drivers. They also cover any servicing etc that car may need and give u RAC cover also. Hope this helps x
