It can be a few things - hypermobile joints, ligaments snapping into position (may be due to hypermobility), fluid in the joint, damage to the cartilage, even myofascial restrictions.
Hypemobility is considered a risk factor for developing Fibro and myofascial restrictions/pain are common alongside Fibro, so it may be worth getting checked out for both of those.
A physiotherapist or even your GP can check for hypermobility. The diagnostic criteria for Hypermobility Syndrome (where hypermobile joints are associated with other symptoms, such as pain) is here:
Note that when working out your Beighton score (score of how many joints you have that are hypermobile, used in the diagnostic criteria) it is either now or in the past that counts.
A physiotherapist, osteopath or specialist massage therapist with training in myofascial work can check for myofascial restrictions.
Thanks for letting me know, I think I'll make a doctors appointment as it can be sore at times and I feel the need to crack it because it builds up tension and stiffness
Hi. yes I have crunchy bones too.My knees make a really horrible noise as I go up stairs and when I sit down or bend, and my jaw crunches when I yawn and when I lay down.YUK!!
Sounds exactly like me! It hurts even more when I don't crack my knees or shoulder because it feels like tension building up and when I crack my knees or whatever else is sore it releases the pressure .. Not too sure if that's a good thing or not tho!
