Cracking bones

Anyone else have cracking bones that click in and out of position?

I sound like a creaky skeleton. Not sure if this is contributing to my pain.

My toe dislocates every night and it pops back in morning time when I walk on it. It’s pretty damaged from Hypermobility.

Waiting on a rheumy appointment. Anti inflammatory markers are all normal. Doctor pretty miffed and possibly disbelieving ☹️

Thanks guys!

I’m a click mover too... could never creep up behind anyone that’s for sure, they’d hear me coming a mile off 🙄 Fingers crossed you get some answers soon, you sound so much worse than me and I really hope the docs work it out for you xxx

Hi there and a very warm welcome to our group :) I myself don't have that kind of problem but it sounds pretty sore. Hopefully they can find out how to deal with it at your appointment.

It's called crepitus or cavitation. I get it in my painful joints mainly ankles. Recently my shoulder has been very painful as if it was dislocated, it has never cracked before but regularly does now. Doctors say it is harmless but I think it's a result of damage to the area around the joint.

Thanks all, interesting that seems to occur with others too. It may be something or nothing. Definitely the most painful bit is the ankle cracking! I am so sorry you are all in such pain.

Went to the doctor again and I felt yet again labelled as a problem patient, complainer etc. My bloods come back normal so they attribute things to anxiety/depression. Hopefully the rheumy will get to the bottom of it but GP said it could be Fibromyalgia. I am not sure.

Hi InvisibleGirl I'm new to this site also and the information and support received has been invaluable. For years I have had various issues with joints, Hypermobility, depression/anxiety, IBS, osteopenia and have in the last week been diagnosed with Fibro and osteoarthritis.

Sometimes you get to the stage, with Doctors, that you have to be firm about your symptoms. I went in with a list of pain sites and symptoms and asked them outright if it was Fibro. When they looked back through my visits they finally joined all the dots - finally.

I have to go back in 2 weeks where they will discuss what happens next.

Take care and be firm!!

Really glad you got some answers. Yes it reaches a point where we have to be firm. It is our lives and quality of life that is deteriorating. I have empathy for GP's too as they do a fantastic job most of the time, they are under resourced and over-worked. Persistence is key when things keep getting worse though. I hope you get good treatment and management of your pain and conditions. Take care.

Hi, I was exactly the same, even down to the fact that they just diagnosed last week. They have moved around my pain relief a little but other than that nothing will change.

My knees have always made a cracking noise, but they’re much worse now. I also have a bone in my ankle that feels as though it goes out of place when I’m walking. I have to stop and hang onto a lampost or wall to rotate my foot until it clicks back again.

Oh that sounds painful! I get something similar but only when I kneel down or deliberately rotate it. I hope it does not get any worse for you.

Thank you. I hope your rheumatology appointment will prove helpful to you.

Best wishes MariLiz

Every joint in my entire body either snap crackles or pops, just like the cerial lol, all the time every day. When I get out of bed in the morning it feels like im standing on glass because my toes are stiff and painful to stand on but then the clicks start and the pain eases a little. My doctor thinks its probably arthritis made worse by the Fibro and says its yet another thing to live with. Maybe your doctor can recommend something if it is arthritis that is causing your clicking.

My joints in my foot/toes are damaged and I have to click them in the morning upon standing. It is very painful. Caused by hyper=mobility and stress to the joints the ortho said an nothing can be done except insoles and I also take painkillers when really bad. I can't take more than 10 mg codeine and absolutely no NSAIDS though because they cause gastritis attacks.

Yes i do but ive just found out that what they thought was fibro is actually ehlers danos syndrome which is more likely to cause dislocation and cracking.

Also known as hypermobility syndrome very very similar though.

It a nightmare.

My jaw dislocates but had op to stop that. Now my knees and shoulders are goin same way, wont b long before they start dislocating soon.

That sounds really painful. I’ve Hypermobility so I’m wondering if it is hEDS. I’ve got TMJ so I can empathise a little bit with the pain dislocated jaws can cause, must be awful for you. My toes are always dislocating/sub-luxing, orthopaedic surgeon wont operate though as he says the problem will just return and advised physio and insoles. I hope your consultants are looking after you well. Must be so hard for you. My kids are very hyper mobile (much more than me) and I would hate to see them in lots of pain later on in life. Good luck to you. Take good care.
