Hmm I thought that was normal.

I no its tension in the joints ? But I have to crack my back a good 4-5 times a day as I can feel the pressure... Oh the joys LOL

My shoulders crack and clunk if I flex them and ankles and knees join in occasionally too.

Well I don't know if its normal but I too am very creaky xx

Lou do you think it's because we rest more? X

If I sit for more than half an hour I do find it difficult to move. I tend to potter around a lot to keep going xx

I don't think it's to do with inactivity. There have been a couple of small studies but as far as I know nothing fibro related. that's not the last word! just means I'm not aware. Many years ago one man cracked his knuckles on one side only and not the other. for 50 years result: no difference. This is a statistical nonsense of course, however an amusing anecdote. There's even a theory it's gas bubbles collapsing, but my sensations disagree, it feels more like bone surfaces sliding over each other then settling in their "normal" position.

It may increase with fibro. It would be interesting to find out.

I agree with Emma below.

Probably old age creeping on( mine, not yours) I do find it difficult to launch if I sit too long though xx

fenbadger profile image
fenbadger in reply tolou1065

And mine (old age but don't tell my daughter). I stiffen (seize up) with sitting.

I had to laugh at the title. I know a few who had some of those in UNI days. . .

Hello Keeleybee,

Funny you mention this when I was first diagnosed I said to the Consultant I click and creak more than I used to. He said 'Everybody's joints do that' !!!! & dismissed it as nothing - which is probably is!

However, mine definitely do it more than others my age as well as my neck & jaw too, hence the TMJ symptoms. Guess we'll never know why & whether it has anything to do with the Fibro, coincidence or just one of those things :)

Best Wishes

Emma :)

Hi Emma,

I was going to mention it to my doctor. But I no nothing is wrong with my joints as the rheumatologist checked them.

thanks x

I am "double jointed" and I thought that was the reason. I did talk to my doc about it. She said it was because my muscles where so tight and beginning to shorten. Partly due to my age and my health. That it was actually trying to pull my joints out of place or making it so hard for them to move that it was putting a lot of pressure on the joint itself. I can't remember everything she said but I think it had something to due with fluid on the joints also. I really did think it was normal but she is keeping an eye on it because to much or to little fluid around the joint is a problem. Honestly thought it was just normal until I started joking with her about it. So I don't know. Hope this help she did tell me that if it became painful to tell her about it.

Keeleybee in reply toRegnofibro1

Oh right didn't no about fluid, think I will mention it then got to make an appointment soon anyway about med's so I'll bring it up then. Hope it's not More tests really can't be bothed with that HA x

You got to do what you got to do! It's worth mentioning just in case.

in reply toRegnofibro1

"Double jointed" = Hypermobile. Hypermobile with pain and complications = Hypermobility syndrome, aka Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hypermobile type). Check it out to see if you have other symptoms. It's often misdiagnosed as Fibro, although of course, you can have both! ehlers-danlos.org/

Painful clicking and dislocations and subluxations are some of the main symptoms.

My back cracks so loud people look around at me hahaha

My knees do too and i am waiting for one of them to be drained due to a large bursa or something - if the drain doesn't work they will operate to remove it.

My shoulders also make a lot of noise and hurt like hell

Never had the cracking before the fibro so could be a connection xx

Dunno what it signifies though - I know with my back if it is due with reduced disc space and nerves getting trapped on occasion. I can actually feel it sometimes and nip it in the bud with stretches before it grips me xx

Keeleybee profile image
Keeleybee in reply tolandslider

Ouch nerve pain kills! Hope they manage to drain your knee :-)

Yeah maybe it's a connection, like said previous about the muscles shortening could be that.. Must make a mental note and stretch more :-)

Yeah - I didn't know about the muscle shortening - I do force myself to walk my dogs everyday to keep active. Wipes me out sometimes but I love my babies and it keeps me at least part mobile.

I learned some really good stretches at an exercise referal class

Happy cat - angry cat is still one of the best for my back - you get on all 4's and arch your back up and down - head down with the up to stretch your neck out and head up with downcurve - it really frees things up.

Another good one is to lie flat on a surface and stretch your arms above your head whilst pointing your toes and really push both ends away from each other - can't do that one anymore as I can't lift my left arm but one armed is better than nothing lol xx

Keeleybee profile image
Keeleybee in reply tolandslider

Thanks I'm going to try them tomorrow :)

Yeah walking is good for you, I no what you mean kicks your head in after, I did a load of ironing today and boy do I feel it now! Oh well tomorrow will be a better day _( I say this every day LOL)

Yes but i think mines due to hypermobility syndrome rather than a fibro thing.

Yes, I do. Not really sure what it is but I do also have arthritis and spondylosis etc. I hope that it is not too much of a problem for you?

All my hopes and dreams for you

Yes, definitely. I particularly notice this in my wrists when I wake up in the morning and stretch. Knees, elbows and ankles also bad. I try to do Yoga when I can, and it does help. MariLiz
