Have you seen a Psyciatrst ?
Hello glochessum, gentle hugs,
When I was diagnosed, it was through my GP's referral - not to a Psychiatrist, but I Rheumatologist - that I was found to suffer from Fibro after many years of excruciating pain. Then the Rheumatologist referred me to a pain therapist. Not once did my GP think it necessary to see a Psychiatrist. But as we all "come about" the Fibro in different ways, maybe your GP thought it was the way to go? Why not ask him/her why the referral to a Psychiatrist?

its sad but alot of people including doctors think fibro is a phyciatric condition and its all in our minds. its not its a chronic medical illness . is your doctor understanding of the illness and ar they clued up on it x
I don't think I need to see one, I'm not a mental case. I am on antidepressants, the highest dose I can go. I have been on them 15 years plus. I am so confused I don't know if it is Fibro or ME as it seems the symptoms are very similar. My doctor said it was Fibro but I"m not even convinced he's sure. I"m going to have to go back and talk to him again because I need to know. I hate feeling like this. I"m one very confused cookie
Thanks Chris, that was very helpful. I don't feel so bad about seeing one now.
I really like my doctor and he has been very good in the past. I will make an appointment and try to see him on one of my better days. Thank you so much for
your helpful replies.
jules i agree it sounds as though he does not understand fibro or m.e. some doctors dont . x
I have fm and l am bipolar so have seen a psychiatrist for a long time, I can't see that it will do any harm as finding one professional person to help is such a struggle with fm.
my bipolar has been ongoing for years fm was dignosed last year, none of the docs I have seen really understand
Good luck
Thanks Jules, I have 4 little fur babies and a Cocker Spaniel. See I must be mad lol
I have known people with Fibromyalgia who were referred to a Psychiatrist because they were suffering from deep depression and emotional problems. Usually it tends to be a Rheumatologist that we get referred to first, who will examine us, perform tests, blood tests etc., so hopefully giving us the diagnosis we need to come to terms and accept our condition. Where other factors/symptoms are present we could be referred to other specialists to diagnose and treat us for other underlying conditions.
