Other Names For Fibromyalgia
new name for Fibro?
Two of these are not correct. Neurasthenia is more akin to CFS which is itself another name for Myalgic encephalomyelitis i.e. ME.
Fibrositis, muscular rheumatism, Fibromyositis, psychogenic rheumatism. More recently while not new names per se they are used as synonyms either for the mechanism or a collective of similar conditions. i.e. CSS and chronic primary pain respectively.
CSS?
Central sensitisation syndrome
personally I call Fibro a pain in the ass π
If your pain is isolated to that region then it isn't Fibromyalgia. π
Ha ha! I can confirm I have no pain in that area but I do have Fibro πππ
CRPS or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I call it CRAPS. Anyway, my ass doesn't hurt. I don't really agree with the diagnosis, but the Pain Management guy said it's a newer name for Fibromyalgia. I also have PMR, severe osteoporosis, possible bursitis, 10 vertebral compression fractures and possibly an atypical femoral fracture (jury is out pending a complete bonescan). So pain is pretty complex, but not necessarily Fibromyalgia. That is what he came up with after waiting 2 years to get into our pain clinic here in Halifax NS. Then he did nothing and dumped me back into my GPs lap.
CRPS has been about for a while but I would disagree with your pain management guy. It is certainly not the same as fibro and I am sure Burning Nights charity would say the same. The definition of fibro is all over chronic pain and CRPS is localised pain.
There may be a similar mechanism and there may be some links we find in future but they are not the same.
I would have to agree with you. When I told him I disagreed, he got super defensive and said "I've been doing this for 14 years...". I wouldn't want to deal with him again, however, now my GP blames all my pain on fibro and his recommendations for pain management are all she will go by. The gabas, the srni's etc. None of which I can take. Ugh.
What the chuff ?
