Hi all.
I take gabapentin but was prescribed amtriptyline also, although its only 10mg.
Since i started taking it, usually at 9pm, I am sleeping like crazy! All night, and then most of the day.
Anyone else experience this?
THanks for reading

Ive been on amitriptyline for about 6 months now. For a few weeks I was much the same, loved that it helped me sleep but a bit zombie like the next day.I found taking it earlier in the evening say about 3 hours before bed gave the same sleep bht far more alert during the day.
May be worth trying to take it early too?
If I haven't taken my amitriptyline by7pm I don't take it at all
Usually this effect wears off in a couple of weeks. I take mine at 8.30 I go to sleep around 12 and get up at 7ish. Although to be honest it doesn't have this effect on me anymore, I wish it did I'm on 90mg and sleep badly but then I've been on Amitriptyline for a long long time now.
What a shocking combination, I would seriously be questioning the Amitriptyline, is an awful drug.
P.s both of these drugs serious effects your breathing, they both slow it down , and can cause headaches through lack of oxygen during sleeping
Hi
I have just weaned myself off gabepentin. My usual doctor said it was the best thing for fibromyalgia. Then I saw two locums, who were horrified I'd been on it for years and suggested gradually reducing the dose.
Pain wise, there was no difference. I couldn't tell I wasn't taking them. So in my opinion, why take something that causes awful side effects (whether you feel them now, or problems they cause in the future), when there is no notable difference in managing pain?
It may be because I'd been taking them for about 8 years and a bigger and bigger dose was needed for the same effect as when I initially started. But I'm happy not to be taking them anymore xx
Thank you everyone for the helpful replies .
Hi, I take the same combination of gabapentin and amtryptlene. When I complained to the doctor she said 'why not cut the amitryptlene' in half. Since then I have had the best of both worlds. Normal use is half a tablet but on these 'frozen days' when everything seems to hurt a whole tablet relaxes you. Try having a word with your doctor or pharmacist first - but this worked for me xx
Apparently it sits in your system for up to 20 hours. It's a horrible drug. I slept for 12 hours yesterday.
Amitriptyline Gabapentiun pregablin duluxotine give me terrible dreams/nightmares etc.But we all experience pills and potions in different ways etc.
All these pills mentioned will make you sleep 💤 like a log.
Add fibromyalgia into the recipe and it's symptoms and you will feel wiped out and that's not healthy as to much rest is not good.
i have been on Amitriptyline since 1994 for ME. Was diagnosed at National hospital Queens Square. Top Neurology Hospital in London. I have been taking them ever since 150mg at night. I take them at 7pm every night, i know without them i would not sleep (insomnia)
When i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2016 by rheumatology they put me on gabapentin. Terrible side effects with them. Was taken straight off of them and put on pregabalin.
I think that gabapentin caused the side effects as had never had a problem with amitriptyline.
Everybody is different so you need to find what is best for you by trial and error.
I wish you luck trying to find the right combination for yourself.
😊😊 Have a good day as best you can.
