Hip pain - OA/fibro/both!?

Hi all

This is a question for anyone with hip OA/wear and tear issues as well as fibro pain in hips. I know there are a few of you!

An xray showed I have mild sclerosis of my superior hip joints. This is a precursor to OA I believe… but I don’t have joint narrowing or cyst formation yet thankfully. Could this sclerosis be contributing to/causing pain in lower back and knees also? My hips are stiff and very sore it’s making my fibro worse all over as everything is tight and sensitised… I’m loathe to keep taking cocodamol unless it’s a joint issue, as opposed to nervous system being out of whack (particularly bad atm).

Thanks in advance for any thoughts shared…

Hi, I have OA in my hips and knees and I get terrible pain in my lower back. Due to a stomach condition I can only take paracetamol. I use heat pads and deep heat cream. I’ve been seeing a physiotherapist who has given me exercises that strengthen certain muscles which support the hips and lower spine, I also have a TENS machine , it hasn’t been a miracle cure but strengthening the muscles has eased the pain a bit and she has given good advice about how not to over do things and how to cope with the pain. 🩵

Hi  EarthSitter1 - thanks for your reply 🙏🏻

Im relieved to hear lower back pain can be a knock on from hips, as I don’t think I could cope with yet another body part giving up on me 😅 I’ve not been to physio in months but it’s probably time to resume that….! Thanks again ✨

EarthSitter1 , if you don’t mind me asking another question… does it cause soreness when sitting and especially getting up from sitting? My tailbone is very sore and not sure if hips are causing that or it’s yet another issue!! 😮‍💨

Hi, I don’t tend to get much trouble with my tailbone at home as I regularly move around, but I do get it after a long journey or if we’re out such as a restaurant (hard chairs) or at the cinema/ theatre etc or out in the wheelchair where I’m sitting a long time and can’t move around much. But to be honest I think they may be two different issues as it’s not a constant thing. 💙

Thanks EarthSitter1 , I think you’re probably right. I have EDS as well as fibro so I’m an odd mixture of stiff and loose 😅 Hope you’re having a pleasant week so far x
