Aw Yes! it's awful 😔 I think I've probably tried just about everything there is over the years from the saliva sprays 🤮 to the gels, the ones you stick on to the side of your gums and you look like you've got a gigantic gobstopper in there!

You try to speak and your lip has welded itself to your teeth or your tongue has attached to the roof of your mouth or your throat has dried up so much you squeek rather than speak! It's an absolute joy, I know it very well. And ..... it always happens when you're in a work meeting just to add to the misery.

Now I just constantly drink water, chew gum & sugar free lozenges. Extra fluoride toothpaste from the dentist as between this and clamping my jaws shut like a vise I've broken several teeth and chewed umpteen holes inside my jaws.

Sorry I went off on a bit of a rant 🙄😂😂

Yes I know it too well. I love your rant it's reality of the dry mouth 🙄 .

Nothing works for me only chewing gum I actually sleep with it in my mouth up by my gums .

It's silly really incase it comes out in the night and gets stuck I my hair lol.

Lady in boots chemist said there is something you can get on prescription from your doctor for dry mouth. I had a telephone appointment with my doctor on Friday I tried to ask him about it he was rude and told me that wasn't the reason for the phone call today x

Do these guys take classes on arrogance? I'm so sorry that happened! Jerk. I've got some words I'd prefer, but they'd get me kicked out.

I always carry with me, sugar free polo mints. Just chewing on something produces saliva. To chew anything with sugar content not only isnt good for the teeth, but for weight gain. Chewing gum would be okay too.

Antidepressants cause dry mouth as my dentist will tell you at length

I use salivex which helps, but just chewing gum can help

I have problems with dry mouth and dry eyes. I have Salivix pastilles to suck and drops for my eyes during the day and gel to use at night, all prescribed by my GP. I would suggest going to see your doctor who should be able to give you something to help. I also find dry food can be difficult to swallow as it seems to get stuck in my oesophagus so I drink plenty water whilst eating. I hope you get the help you need. Best wishes x

Yes, I am getting such a dry mouth it is difficult to talk and sometimes swallow (to the point of feeling a bit panicky!). It is so bad sometimes it feels as if my tongue and guns are burning and they feel sore. The GP prescribed some spray for dry mouth but it is only a relief for about 30 seconds. So I am slowly coming off of Amitriptyline which I think is the main cause, although I also take Sertraline. I'll let you know how it goes!

Tommygurl profile image
Tommygurl in reply toNinapod

Thank you for your reply.Yes I get the burning too it's horrible especially when food gets stuck and your trying to swallow and it won't go down panick sets in , but now I always make sure I have a drink with me xx

hi Tommygurl 🙂🌿🌸🦋

You can google Fibromyalgia 200+ symptoms to get the extended list of our symptoms ( just in case you missed my post about it before).

Have you been tested for other autoimmune diseases?? I have Sjogrens Syndrome; which damages the moisture producing cells. I have progressive symptoms but fortunately not the dental/gum issues you listed.

There is a product called Biotene gel and spray for your mouth. The spray during waking hours and gel for bedtime that helps protect your oral region. While it can’t reverse damage it can help to protect /slow down issues from Sjogrens. Warning; do not use if you have thyroid disease as it will block thyroid hormones both naturally and thyroid medicine produced hormone.

I used this for some time before it was discovered that my thyroid immune produced disease was being blocked by the Biotine products.

The relief these gave me from dehydrated oral issues was phenomenal. The taste was pleasant. Easy to use. I understand it is expensive across the pond (it was worth it to me to save my gums and teeth…plus help aid in digestion too).

You can ask your chemist if a generic local brand is available. I pray it is.

I also take a capsule called Evoxac ( generic Ceminviline…not sure if spelled right, sorry) which makes all the body cells produce moisture. I take 2 capsules daily (1 every 12 hours) which is a must because my condition has progressed to affect every moisture cell in my body.

If you have any need of me feel free to contact/PM me I’ll be glad to assist you however I can.

Take care and abundant blessings.

Love and prayers,

EJ 🤗♥️🥰🙏🕊🌿🌸🦋

You’re so welcome love. Can’t tell you the number of doctors that were dismissive about my symptoms. My Inherited Erythromalagia alone took 46 years to diagnose via double DNA tests and conferring with World field specialists to get diagnosed. I surely empathize with you and you are so right to seek out someone who will listen intently look you in the eye and make you feel human.

Abundant blessings.

Hi honeybug

Interesting comments n agree with you.

I have suffered with severe dry mouth n eyes n my dental found my Serum Ace very high n referred me to a Rheumatologist - in the meantime I’m positive to smith-antibody for life but have been cleared for Rheumatoid arthritis n lupus (but proteins in lupus maybe a problem - not sure what it means). At moment they have put me on vitamin D 20000ui weekly then going to do blood test in 2months n they believe it’s the severe fibro

My gp asking me get tested Sjogrens

Honey bug, can you tell me how you got tested Sjogrens

honeybug profile image
honeybug in reply toPhgc

Hi Phgc 🤗🌿🌸🦋

Sorry for your suffering love.

I was diagnosed by my 🤩 Ears Nose Throat (ENT ) via lip biopsy. He used a very small tool to get a little piece of my inner lower lip mucosa. The mouth is very able to heal quickly. No stitches and no pain. But using Zinc can aid in healing if needed. Be sure to not use zinc long term as it is used in hospital admits and you’ll get immune to it’s healing properties

From the test results forward my Sjogrens has had rapid progression because I have serious Autoimmune Disease leading to dozens of diagnoses.

I am glad to answer any questions or be here for you.

Love and prayers,

EJ 🤗♥️🥰🙏🕊🌿🌸🦋

Pends on what medication you're on but fibromyalgia even without medication can lead to dry mouth & other oral & throat issues.

Hi. I am under an oral Maxillofacial consultant for another condition but he also diagnosed Sicca Syndrome. I was using a high fluoride toothpaste from dentist but was told to stop using it and to avoid any toothpaste with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate in it as it’s a drying agent. You can get a gel and or spray on prescription. I use Xerostom spray or gel. It is the recommended by the British Dental Association. There are also pastels and the melts. It’s a case of which you prefer and what works best. Boots also have a good dry mouth range.

Yes I had awful dry mouth for over a year after having the Covid jab plus tried Omeprazole which may also have caused it. It was so awful and depressing. I constantly drink/sip water, salivex spray, salivex pastilles, biotene gel, biotene mouthwash which lubricated your mouth plus tablets that stick to your gum overnight which were very useful. Thankfully it's more or less gone after 2 years with occasional use of the pastilles. Sugar free gum was also helpful.

I suffered with terrible dry mouth for years also dry eyes and nose.I used a lozenge called luvbiotics which really helped. Also don’t use toothpaste or dental products that has sodium laurel sulphate in it that makes dry mouth work. Dentist recommended having a humidifier by bed at night and that actually helped.

Hi like you I have constant dry mouth and my tongue seems to stain easily and even with brushing it doesn’t go away. I was told that it’s probably due to my medication 🤷‍♀️

Anyway I now eat chewing gum to get the saliva going and I’m trying to drink more water it helps during the day but when sleeping it’s so dry it sticks to the roof of my mouth I always have water on the bedside cabinet to help during the night

I have in the past bought a tube of biovea ? Gel which you rub on your tongue it might help and they also have some other mouth products. It’s trial and error. One other thing. I find toothpaste can also make your tongue and mouth white and stringy. 😌 biovea also do a toothpaste. It’s trial and error 🤷‍♀️

Hi, i've got fibro and Sjorgens Syndrome and my mouth gets so dry i can't speak sometimes. The worst thing i get is painful ulcers where my tongue rubs on my teeth.I was given BioXtra by the doctor and it's a life saver. I've always got plenty in my bag if i go out.

Speak to your doctor about it. Hope you get it sorted out soon xx
