Hi, I have Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS and I suffer terribly with sore mouth, tongue and also dry mouth and throat. I’ve just been putting up with it for ages but it seems to be more constant now.
I also have no idea what toothpaste or toothbrush to use as they keep making my sores worse.
If anyone has any ideas or advice it would be welcomed 🙏😊

For years I was told that my sore tongue was geographic tongue but recently I saw a dentist who diagnosed lichen planus and atrophic tongue!Spicy food makes it worse and I get canker sores on my gums which last weeks. I seem to have flair ups but my tongue is also sore constantly but varying in intensity.
No alcohol mouthwash and a mild toothpaste as a really minty one will irritate
My dentist recommended Zendium toothpaste . It’s made with natural ingredients . It’s around £4.80 from Boots or online but worth it not to have ulcers ! Doesn’t cure my dry mouth though .
Other people have suggested possible reason for sore mouth and ulcers, but the dry mouth and throat can be caused by medication. I have this problem and carry sugar free sweets or cough sweets with me. This helps temporarily.
I had a very dry mouth before being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, then took T4 which made me ill and didn’t help the dry mouth. When eventually put onto T3 the dry mouth disappeared (now 7 years ago)
Hi I have a very dry mouth caused by meds I take. Also sore mouth caused by Lichen Planus, which tends to flare up at times, I don't think they're linked to Fibro other than some of the meds i take. I have suffered with Lichen Planus for over 14 years, have had it in several different places on my body and now in my mouth.
I have Fibromyalgia ME/CFS as well I was told it's one of the symptoms to have problems with mouth and throat, Bonjela is good for the sore mouth Take care 🙂

Not specifically fibro and not one of its symptoms but other comorbid conditions like Sjogren's are fairly common overlap in our population.
Yes, I have had that for years. The dentist told me to just be gentle and to use a mild mouth wash were possible rather than an electric lawn mower. seems to work ok but still with the odd inflamed gum or ulcer now and again. It used to be much worse though and all I could taste was blood.
It does not seem that anyone has suggested Sjogren's so far and it is worth getting checked out for this. You may also find if it is this that you can have dry eyes etc as well.
I agree - I have Sjorgrens and the dry mouth is one of my main symptoms, together with dry eyes. Really important to keep mouth moist and although I prefer not to use the prescribed artificial saliva spray, some people apparently find it useful. I do however need to use the prescribed eye drops.
Pineapple juice, frozen in to ice cubes, then sucked can be useful for dry mouth.
I also have Sjogren's, and dry mouth and dry throat are hallmark symptoms. Have you tried avoiding toothpaste that contains sodium lauryl sulphate? My mouth sores improved dramatically once I changed brands.
