Emojis in posts

We have had conversations over the years about the use of images, jokes and also emojis. Just thought I would bring it up again so people are aware.

Some people have issues with emojis as they find them hard to understand or they are visually impaired and their screen readers cannot read them at all. So while we have no rules about them I would just like to remind people that less is definity more.

Here is a previous conversation about it you may find interesting.

Thanks for the update Des really appreciate it. I myself use the little smilies but totally agree. Why use 20 when one will do the job. Just as well.

Like you pointed out no rule to how many can be posted but we do have a number of members who use technology to speak the written word to them due to eye problems.

Unfortunately this does not include been able to read emojis . So using them in place of written text means some members will not be able to reply to some posts. Thanks again for the reminder .

I apologise - guilty as charged.

However in my defence I do generally use emojis that just echo what I’ve previously said in words!

I’ll make sure I always “verbally” put my post in type and only an occasional emoji

Hi Des,

I appreciate the head's up, it's something I, shamefully have never given any thought to.

Whilst I enjoy searching for an appropriate emoji to put some colour or ligthen the message we don't all see the same....so I will definitely think again when posting.

Have a great week-end.

I'm also guilty as charged so I'll use them privately only. Hugs to all Dawn

the above is not to stop their use but just making people aware that some people will not see them and may not get them.

Hi. Just wanted to jump in here to say as a person with dyslexia I use voice, pics and emoji alot as communication tools as writing text can be frustrating when you are dyslexic then add fibromyalgia into the mix and let me tell you it's exhausting. So I get that some people find them difficult to understand I personally find using visual aids like emojis a super quick and effective way of expression. So please remember to spare a thought for the people who rely on visual tool like emojis. Thanks 😊.

Just to add that I was bringing this discussion up with a view to making people aware that there can be too many in a post and that some people will not get their meaning at all. I was not trying to stop or discourage their use. Like punctuation they have a place and can make a difference in a sentence but 1 or 2 cupcakes can mean something but 10 - 20 are not communicating anything (IMHO) and are just noise.

As mentioned in the other post if I see a post with them being overused then I just ignore it.⛔
