Newly diagnosed juggling work and mum of 3 one is on adhd and asd pathway even though exhausted I don't get to bed when I'd like because of my daughter and once in bed I'm in extreme pain with burning hands and feet I'm hoping that duluxotine helps but I need to be up and ready to take sons to school

I would first try it at the weekend or when you have a day off with not too much responsibility, as it really did not agree with me and made my symptoms worse. The other one I tried was amitriptyline but found that made me really drousy, so I just use Night nurse when its bad, as I can controll how much i have, it's histamine and paracetemol and even when I wake up at 3am I am drousy enough to fall back to sleep but a coffee in the morning tends to get rid of the drousiness. I also find the Calm app really helpful.

I have duloxtine for fibromyalgia. And it took away all the pin pricking what was all over the body. That has gone now. For me it works . But everyone is different . Just give it a go it does take a while . Good luck

Hey Juggling lifeJust a little note to add to Positive-ish reply.

I was given the name of Nortriptyline by my Rheumatology Consultant.

It's from the same family but without the zombie etc side affects.

Just incase you didn't know about it.

I take a low dose of Duloxetine for pain and so does my daughter. We have not found the low dose makes us drowsy we actually have a split dose so part is taken during the day to help with pain , it actually made me less drowsy than taking larger doses of Pregabalin.

I have Pregabalin as well but again it is a low dose so that both the medications and paracetamol work to take the edge off the pain.

I don't find Duloxetine helps me sleep but it has helped my daughter , but it does help my body to relax. I'm not pain free but pain managed and with my other health conditions as well that's as much as I can ask for.

If you haven't got low blood pressure , and depending on your other health conditions or medications taking a Magnesium supplement after your evening meal can also help with sleep and helps with the burning and pins and needles in your hands and feet.

You want an active form and not one that also affects the stomach. I use Nutrition Geeks Magnesium Glycinate 3in1 , it a good quality and the cheapest available of this type, you can get it from the company or Amazon.

Improving your Vitamin B12 , Folate and Vitamin D consumption can also help with pain , energy and sleep.

Thankyou again for your advice so much appreciated and definitely the magnesium is something iv been thinking about the daytimes hard but the burning in my hands and feet is the worst at night I wrap cold damp towels around them then warm the doc said just continue doing that but it's ridiculous then it's time to get up thankyou

I would get up at 7.30 to get the kids out the door and on the bus ( they are teenagers) but come 10.30 Duloxetine would have me back asleep on the sofa till 2pm when I would wake and get on with the day.

I have been described as hyper sensitive but over the 18 months I had been taking it made me itchy, bad tempered, sleepy and depressed. I worked through cold turkey over six to eight months slowly coming off it reducing dose. The final jump to zero had me suicidal. I got through it but would not recommend it to anyone and regularly tell Drs not to prescribe it.

Good luck.

That's what iv heard but I suppose it different for everyone I will try it but going bk to sleep isn't an option I'm working even though it's hard I'm trying to find something easier as it stands I don't feel listened to about how I fully feel i do lunchtime in a school so that mornings are easier if my daughter has a meltdown and I have a bad night but take each day as it comes I hope your feeling much better and found something that helps you thanks for your reply x

Currently on Noratryptalin (sp) but find excercise helps with endorphin release. Also looking into LDN on private prescription as that releases endorphins without the excercise. Good luck.

I have duloxetine 30mg in the morning and magnesium at night, either tablet or spray on my legs which helps with sleep. I also have nortryptaline at night for nerve pain, it's part of the Amitryptaline drugs but not as drowsy x

Hey (love the user name 👍), Duloxetine is a popular choice with doctors but it didn't suit me. What's so tricky is we all react differently to medication 😏. When you feel so bad most things are worth a go 😩. The withdrawal coming off them was the worse for me. I'm liking the night nurse idea more! Best of luck with whatever you decide. Good advice from other post on starting them on a Friday night x

Thanks thought name summed everything up 😅 thankyou yes that's what I thought il have to try but bit worried aswell I was sort of given them with not much advise but like you say it's trial and error just want to be out of pain clear mind and energy to be a mum but positive thinking that's all you can do 🙂

lol your name definitely sums things up! I was given the duloxetine without much advice too and I got mine from a private pain consultant! Scary really 🤔 x

Hi yes I take Duloxetine, it helps me, it’s always there but bearable, sometimes good days sometimes bad.

I got myself an electric throw which I wrap around myself when in a bad flare up. That burning, tingling is a vile sensation.

It’s trial and error I think with the medication, I tried loads, and spent a fortune on vitamins etc.

Give them a go, if they don’t help go back to your GP, that’s what he/she is there for.

This site is a godsend, lovely friendly advice given, helps us so much. Good luck. Sending lots of gentle hugs 🤗 x

Hi Jugglinglife,

I was the same as you, I got put on so many different types of tablets but I must admit the new ones seem to be working, they do take a month to get into your blood stream but I am now getting a good night sleep with no feeling like a zombie the next day. The tablets are Nortriptyline I take 2 every night at the same time at 8pm, I know everyone is not the same but they have really helped me as the pain was worse once I got into bed! I have also followed a food plan which has made me feel better, no sugar, no dairy, no red meat and no gluten. I know it sounds harsh but I’d do anything to feel better. I’m doing it for a month and then I will introduce other foods slowly to see what affects me. I hope you feel better soon ❤️

Thanks for the advice Labradoodle yes i think your right a diet change would be reqlly helpful aswell I need to get into gear because when I'm run down or in pain I reach for the rubbish and I love butter milk etc it's changing a habit of a lifetime but definitely need to do it I really appreciate everyone's help thankyou xxx

I know it’s hard, I put too much weight on as when the pain became so unbearable I just reached for the chocolate, or the biscuit tin, I’m half way there as I don’t like butter or milk but give me a pot of ice cream 😋 it’s a good job it’s still cold as I don’t give in to that yet 😂 I am surprised though being the second week I haven’t craved chocolate, long may it last although Easter is around the corner.

Jugglinglife in reply toLabradoodlelove

I know its hard to break the cycle 🤣I think that weight might not be helping and obviously the kind of foods I'm a bigger made person always been the same sort of size but noticed a change lately

if your GP has giving you this it’s worth a try , i take it but does not make me feel drowsy at all, just abit more relaxed (but we are all different ) I’ve stuck with it for around 6 years now. You are juggling a lot with work and your daughter so can imagine you ,it’s be exhausted. Differently keep seeking advice from your surgery , there should be someone too give you a call back for advice if you have any concerns , take care x
