The pain started a couple of months ago thought I was having a heart attack found it hard to even to breathe got checked out at hospital said it was muscular take pain killers. It eventually eased off but was back in a week so went to Doctors had bloods done and an xray of my chest all showed nothing. So I'm taking over the counter Codine for the pain but when it's bad I cannot get up or even put my shoes on without severe pain it's getting me down my pain is across my chest and in the middle of back and my left buttock are these the symptoms of fibromyalgia

I do get pain in a lot of these areas and chest pain for me was a mix of a heart valve issue but also fibro pain so it was hard to work out what was what but Papworth got to the bottom of it after my echocardiogram.

Fibro trigger points though not used to diagnose anymore gives you an idea of where you can get pain

I had chest pain last summer that came and went but it was excruciating, made me short of breath and I simply couldnt lay down, I was sent to A&E who said it was indigestion, what I thought about that isnt repeatable. All my ECG's were normal and my chest X ray was normal.

I got sent the paramedics out by 111, and was basically messed about until the cardiologist I saw did an echocardiogram and saw I had Pericarditis, basically inflammed extra fluid around my heart. 3 weeks of steroids and a course of antibiotics later and it was all clear.

Dont assume its always Fibro. There are plenty of other causes of chest pain.

I agree with the others, it could be costochondritis, inflammation of the breastbone. This is what I thought I had. Turns out it was something else completely.

Maybe I'm rather jaundiced when it comes to doctors, or maybe I've just been unlucky but they are only human beings, not Gods ( no matter how big their egos are) and they make mistakes and miss things. They have their own pet theories and prejudices.

Plus as we all know the NHS is under huge amounts of pressure so they dont get long with each patient. I certainly dont think that they know best all the time.

I've had several occasions where I've seen a doctor, been fobbed off with a diagnosis, usually Fibro related, only to find out its something else. One time I was nearly sent home with a rupturing appendix, which could have proved fatal.

You know your own body, better than any doctor, you are the expert on what is normal for you. No one else can tell how you feel. If you're not getting any better then seek a second opinion.

Last summer, with severe chest pain, neck pain, shortness of breath and unable to lay down the A&E doctor told me it was indigestion. It took a second opinion from a Cardiologist to finally diagnose me.

HI, not sure who your reply is to . Just letting you know you keep replying to yourself and not the OP It's easily done.

Any chest pain must be taken seriously. When you attended A&E did they do an ECG ? If not you need to go asap and get one. If they did and results we clear then it could well be muscular as they said. But you should still go back to your doctor so they can prescribe the correct medication and help you with your care plan going forward.

Look up costochondritis it's common with fibromyalgia

I had chest pains that felt like I was having a heart attack before Christmas, went to A&E and was diagnosed with costochondritis. Due to me being allergic to several different medications all I could take was paracetamol. The symptoms you’re describing might be the same thing all you can do is keep speaking to your doctor until you get the right treatment for you.

I think we Fibro's do worry, especially when a medical person says they cant find anything ! of course they know what they are doing, They have years of education and training,

But when your body is screaming with pain and you cant shake it off no matter how much medication for pain your on, It gets really scary really quick,

I didn't even know what a panic attack was until I had 1,

At that moment I thought I was going to die, I couldn't breath, ( you can breathe),So much pain, I actually asked for death, I have them a lot these days, I have to make myself breathe deeper and calm myself down,The diazepam helps, but I worry because my oxygen intake is only 80% ( results from hospital)

The best thing to do would call 111 If they cant help they tell you to call ambulance,

You don't have to go the hospital but you'll know you are in the best mobile care with the paramedics, You can always call again, There so many symptoms with Fibro you have to go through this huge list and you know your not getting to see your GP

Don't forget your local walk in centre too, A new pain is a scary pain, Don't wait until it's too late, Many poopoo paracetamol but It's stronger than you think, If you are that worried of course you must call for help

I hope you are feeling the best that you can right now

Take care Debs

Hi there, yes it seems almost anything these day can be fibro related which is definitely not the case IMO . It does sound like two unrelated muscle problems from what you say. One in the chest and one in the buttock. So if you have been checked over and they say everything looks ok I would be inclined to believe the doctor when he/she said that's what it was. That's just my personal opinion and am not qualified to give a medical opinion.

I will say this muscle pain /strain can be crippling and the worse pain ever. And it can take many months to ease up. I have been dealing with similar since back in November with no let up . So I can completely empathise . I hope you feel better soon.

Hi MikstarSo sorry to hear how unwell you are. I echoe what other people have put on. Never Persume it is always down to Fibro.

It could be Costochronditis like some others have said or polymyalgia rheumatica. If you are not happy and worried then please go back to your GP. Don't be fobbed off, you know your body best. Sending gentle hugs

Lilly

I've been suffering similar for some time now. Mine is muscular. It is the lining of the chest wall that causes the pain and makes you think you are having a heart attack. I've been in A&E three times and had many expensive heart tests and scans done to find nothing and that I have a healthy heart. It comes on quickly, can be sharp and radiates around my ribs, back and spinal area. I was told by the consultant that there is no cure/treatment sadly. It can be a symptom of fibromyalgia but not always. He advised me it could be Costochronditis (devils grip) but that it could also be as simple as moving or lifting something that strains the muscle.

Have you been xrayed for Gall Stones? I thought I was having a major heart attack when I had mine, the chest pain was excruciating. Easy operation to get them removed and had no problems since.
