Dry mouth and throat

I have a constantly dry throat and meds, probably from meds. Other than carrying water around with me whenever I go out, or a constant supply of cough sweets, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I get a dry mouth from meds that I take, my hygienist recommended sugar free chewing gum, and/or sugar free sweets. I am not really a gum fan, but it does really help for a while, so do the sweets, but I always have a glass of water by my side, and I always take a bottle of water with me when I go out. I have Lichen Planus in my mouth and if I don't keep it really hydrated the LP flares up and is really painful.

Many thanks. I will try using sugar free chewing gum, its sounds the best option for me

It's probably the meds but are you diabetic? I have unquenchable thirst if my sugars are a bit high.

HI veggiefan70I have Sjogrens syndrome which gives me dry mouth and eyes.

Use eye drops and fake saliva

Need to stay hydrated

Hope you find an answer

Try some sugar free sweets to suck on and drink water too. My dentist recommended this and a toothpaste she gives me on prescription called Duraphat. Hope it helps x

Hi I have the same trouble I chew chewing gum all the time to try and keep my mouth moist, it’s a right pain. Apparently it’s because of the medication we take.

I had a dry mouth and thought it was through medication. Dr diagnosed me with Sjorgren’s and gave me a tube of biotene which is a moisturising gel for the mouth. It might be worth asking for some or get some from the chemist.

I also have this and use different eye gels. drops and Biotene spray (it's been unavailable for some time) and the gel. I hope you can find something that helps

Boots do a Dry Mouth Spray, works wonders for me especially at night. Small enough to keep in pocket as well

I didn't know that, I will try some as I am always waking during the night due to my dry mouth. Thanks for the tip!

I popped to boots today after reading your reply and purchased their Dry Mouth Spray, I'm hoping it'll work through the night, and maybe stop me waking 3, 4 times for a drink. Thank You

Yes I get this a lot, I found pretending you are chewing something makes more saliva in your mouth. Try it!

I drink lot of fluids at night not caffeine, sparkling water, mix up a bottle of lemonade /orange juice as well, think meds can have an impact , think our snoring habits don’t help so a lot people fall asleep with their mouth open (I wear a Cpap mask for sleep apnea but when I have dozes without that on I snore for England and have very dry mouth ☹️, I’m trying too buy nice crisp apples at the moment (Russet are in season 😀)and eat an apple at night as are the Satsumas etc nice juicy. We can only try can’t we .

Awful isn't it, sometimes you try to speak but your tongue has welded itself either to your teeth or the roof of your mouth or both!🙄

I use a mix of always having water with me, countless packs of gum, sugar free sucky sweets, biotene gel, mouthwash, salivix pastilles & when I'm really really desperate fake saliva 🤮

I'm in no way suggesting anyone should be smoking,

I've been a coughing person since childhood back then people wouldn't go to see a doctor until you were on your deathbed, Every time I started coughing I'd have a ciggie.

I think it's the regular way I'd take a drag (deep breath in)

Blow out smoke (deep breath out)

Since I gave up smoking many many moons ago I have been lucky not to have even a sniffle, ( I rarely leave the house to catch anything, Hubby goes out often and he never brings home anything,(thank goodness) I hope it eases off for you soon

Take care

Debs

Hi. I can’t stand the thought of the mouth sprays but have Salivix Pastilles on prescription. They taste nice and you can just keep one stuck to the roof of your mouth and they last for ages. I also have dry eyes and get Thealoz Duo eye drops, also on prescription. Speak to your Rheumatologist or GP and ask them. Water doesn’t do anything for me but coconut water is better. I can only drink the one that starts with ‘I’ and ends with ‘t’. Rather pricey but there’s not much I can drink because everything burns my mouth. Good luck 🙂
