Has anyone found fluoxetine 20mg useful for fibromyalgia or raynards or non differentiating connective tissue disease?
I have been prescribed it via phone as consultant requested face to face but they made it a telephone appointment due to waiting times.
I am having random stabbing pains all around body, once eases I go for walk on crutches and knee supports and then sudden attack like a nail has been hammered through centre of my foot lasts up to a minute then moves to head or shoulder etc.
Thank you 🙏

Personally I’m not sure exactly what fluoxetine is meant to do? I became convinced it was a bit of a ‘fob you off’ medication!?!
I took it for years as I was told to by GP, at all different strengths, and it did absolutely nothing for me 🤷🏼♀️
However, everyone is different so I would definitely suggest giving it a good go (at least a couple of months), and then if it isn’t helping, either up the dose or try something else.
I have been taking Amitriptyline 25mg for a number of years now, but recently found that it wasn’t working as well and the pain, pins and needles etc., was getting worse. A couple of months ago my GP recommended Duloxetine as well as Amitriptyline, and the combination is very effective. A few side effects to start with but they soon wore off.
Unfortunately what works for some won’t necessarily work for others so its a case of trial and error.
Hi I'm currently on 40mg fluoxetine in the morning it's good for my mental health, also take 75MG amitriptyline at 8pm for the sleep after years of trying different medication. I still get fatigue and pain like someone's hammering nails into my body I call it pinball pain as it shifts about my body, still in pain but with the fluoxetine it's happy pain.
Hi Geeforcr 99 I always thought Fluoxetine was for depression / low mood not necessarily to counteract pain but it could help you cope better. However I'm not a doctor! I have recently come off of Fluoxetine - my pain hasn't changed but I'm extra emotional! As said before, fibromyalgia affects people differently and so do medicines. Hopefully it will work for you: if not go back to your doctor.
Thank you for replies, I decided to take it, Fluoxetine for raynards is helping me already as rheumatologist advised, he thought it would improve circulation it has, but not massively but a little for me to benefit. 😃👍🏻
Hi, I couldn't cope with amitriptyline and the side effects also my pain was still the same. I'm now on pregabalin 150mg three times a day and it's helping. Hope you find the right balance soon.
Hi, So sorry to hear this, with my fibromyalgia I have shooting pains but the medication that helps is duloxatine. It dulls the pain. I started on a low dose but now I take 120mg which does help. I hope you get some relief . Best wishes x
