Dizziness. New symptom?

I woke up very dizzy last night and am realy struggling to manage today with the dizziness. I have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia for over 10 years but this is the first time I have suffered with this. Is it part of the illness and how have others managed it? Thank you in advance for any contributions.

Hi Lilly, my personal opinion is it sounds like it could be many things but not fibro. I have vertigo and can wake up dizzy. Also BP problems could be another reason. I would suggest you need to get your GP to check it out xx

Thank you for your response. Its so hard to know as most things are just dismissed as fibro by the g.p.

This sounds as though this is a new symptom for you. If it carries on I really think you should make an appointment with your doctor and have it checked out as it may not have anything to do with your fibro.

Hi Lilly, It's horrible isn't it. My GP checked me out with tests ... all clear but it was still happening. - Finally went to my appointment with acupuncturist two weeks later and started getting vertigo as soon as I lay back on her treatment table. I had already told her about the daily attacks early in the morning and she studied me carefully for half a minute and then asked about my ears, got me to lie on my side and then sent some energy up my spine with a few needles which gave me confidence, then, when I got home I googled about ears and found out about ear canals and what to do about the tiny crystals that get into the wrong balance canal that can make you feel really dizzy.

What has also built on the treatment I had, is something called The Epley Maneuver which I found on youtube. If you can, get someone to be with you when your try it and perhaps talk and time you through it ... about five minutes. It works but can feel scary. - A good video will explain how the crystals in the wrong place in the semicircular canals can be coaxed back into their right place. Have a look at more than one. Then you can decide of you want to try it. There is no manipulation involved, just subtle body position changes and counting. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Kim. Perhaps it's time to look into other areas beyond the usual medical realm.

Agree. Doctors need to know so much these days and they can't be taught all of it in med school. Other specialist healing therapies can augment what they do. - Saw my chiropractor today and she responded 'I love the Epley Manoever!' Loves her job too, is good at it and often goes on courses to learn new techniques. So must we it seems. Worth the effort to find the therapist that suits you. Hope everything improves for you.

that’s what I have. GP said it’s benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and he said it’s mainly women that get it. Drives me crazy but he gave me an exercise to do when I have an episode and it did work.

Yep! That's the term they all use online. I like the term 'benign', it 's re-assuring! Not surprised your GP said mainly women get it. They are bobbing about doing chores of one sort of another all the time. I think it's wonderful how the exercise works.

Hi, I've had dizzy spells for the past few days and it turn out I have a kidney infection, I did have some other symptoms but the dizziness was the worst. It might be a long shot but if you have any water work's issues it's worth dropping a sample to be tested at your gp's.

Thank you Pennie, that would not have occurred to me.

Although , you can have dizziness as one of the symptoms of Fibro , and the dizziness can start as a new symptom at any point. you need to see a GP and rule out the possibility of it being caused by another illness or infection. Most common causes are UTIs and Kidney infections ,

Blood Pressure or Heart Rate problems.

Vitamin or Mineral Deficiencies

Infections or changes in the inner ear that cause vertigo.

Depending on when the dizziness happens it can also be caused by dehydration .

I would make an appointment today if I were you.
