I see Howard Lamb in Pinner, Middlesex and he practices McTimoney practice where you remain clothed. He doesn’t crack you about and is very gentle. Where do you live? Look up a chiropractor who is a McTimoney practitioner. Howard is worth his weight in gold. I can’t recommend him enough for his magnificent magic abilities and gentle touch.
Hi Eleanortoo Sorry to hear about your back pain. I have had lower back pain for decades and have been to differet osteopaths and chiropractors over the years. I currently see an osteopath monthly for pain in various parts of my body including my lower back. I think it might be trial and error to find the right one for you. After a treatment I always feel more fatigued for the rest of the day and the next. So I make sure I don't have much on then (I'm retired which helps) and it is definitely worth it. In between I do a few gentle exercises at the start of the day to keep me less stiff . Good luck in finding someone who can help you.
Hello there,
I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Fibromyalgia and I use a McTimmoney Chiropractor. It is great for my back and neck. McTimmoney is a bit more gentle than a traditional chiropractor. It takes me a couple of days to get over treatment, depending on what is being treated. I drink a lot of water after treatment because I can feel woozy. With neck alterations, I find it best that I am driven home because I feel quite strange after treatment, there is hardly any pain, just a little stiffness the next day. Recently I had pain from my lower back (SI joint) because my pelvis was rotated to the left. The McTimmoney treatment helped initially but my pelvis kept moving back, then my SI joint subluxated to the left. The chronically tight muscles in the hip and lower back kept moving the bones out of place! If you use manual manipulation, I think it's a good idea to figure out how you can retain the adustments, especially since chronically tight muscles can pull things out (especially if you have hypermobility).
I recently discovered Somatics which uses pandiculation to release the muscles in tension/spasm. It also re-awakens muscles that are in a state of amnesia so when you walk or move, the injury is less likely to reoccur. The combination of McTimmoney treatment, Somatics, and daily exercises is working for me. I know everyone is different but with my hypermobility and lower back issues, these treatments have been a lifesaver. I also used to see a chiropractor that specialised in Neuro-Impulse Protocol, which helped me a lot with muscle spasms in my chest and back. Sadly, I am now a 4-hour drive away, and not many practictioners offer this service. It was brilliant, very gentle, I loved it. Perhaps give a McTimmoney treatment a try, I think the process of exploring helps you learn about your body, what hurts and why and it's good to ask lots of questions. I hope it helps you x
be really careful with chiropractors. Mine is amazing and has a good working knowledge of fibro which is essential. Mine is quick to adjust his techniques and pressure dependent upon my pain levels and areas of pain.
Couldn’t be without the chiropractor in my arsenal.
Hope you find someone to help you.
