Have any of you got any experience of visiting chiropractors? If you do did it help or not?

It may be wise to speak to your GP before trying any treatments. Mine advised me not to go to a chiropractor, but everyone is different.

Ok thank you. I'm just thinking of other options as so far resting & physio isn't helping

in reply to SuzyB

It may work for you, have a chat with your GP or physiotherapist . Physio didn't really work well for me either, it seemed to at first but then it made me very sore afterward and massage was the same...Hope you get something that helps...I'm still trying:)

I went to a chiropractor just before I was diagnosed with having fibro and I had one session and I didnt go back as he hurt me especially when he cracked my neck 'back into place'.

But just because it didn't help me doesnt mean it wont help you. Although I wouldnt recommend it

Good luck x

I have used a chiropractor and he is very good but a chiropractor deals with the bones and not the muscles so I find that a massage is really good especially deep tissue massage. The best massage for me is from a sports masseur as they tend to do deep muscle work rather than relaxation massage from a beauty salon also mine was cheaper than physio or the beauty rooms.

Ok thanks everyone. After a week of laying in bed for 90% of the time its not done a lot for my back and now my hips & knees hurt as well and I'm still getting shooting pains down my legs when I walk and they give way occasionally.

hi Suzy

i think its best for you to go back to your GP as you may have sciatica , its so painful.

Your legs giving way need checking as well

Take care X J

I went to one. For well over a year, without his help I would still be in agony & not be back at work today. I was offered all sorts of physio & other treatments but for a back problem this I found to be the best, I found one through recommendations so I knew he was good. Hope your of soon. Tracy.xx

hiya

ive had fibro for 12 years but only got diagnosed 1 year ago. i have spent ALOT of money on chiropractors and osteopaths and it did help sometimes in the short run and sometimes only on one thing. i have found that deep tissue sports therapy has worked wonders as they work with the muscles and that is where the problems are not the bones. if they manipulate your bones without releasing the tension in the muscles it will be very painful and it will all move back very quickly!

he has also give n me stretching exercises to do every night and it has really helped with the pain and also stopping the muscles from becoming tighter and tighter. if you leave near lancaster i can recommend him :-)

another thing as well the chiros and the osteos have spent years telling me it was this that caused the pain and scaring me with all this stuff and then the gp tells me it is this i was angry as they should have made a more educated guess with my symptoms (i never really saw the gp as they said nothing was wrong, i just focused on solving the pain). so it has left me not really trusting them.

find a good sports massage therapist and follow his advice and i really hope it works for you :-) x

It may be wise to seek out a McTimony Chiropractor if you wish to go down that route I would advise you to try the Bowen Technique though as it works over muscles and tendons and is very gentle in application. A word of warning, any of these therapies can make you feel worse for a day or two, before you reap the rewards. You need to decide prior to going for therapy exactly what you want out of it and what you are prepared to put into it. A therapist can only apply the treatment, the rest is up to you. Do you follow their advice or not? It's a two way street of co operation, time and treatment. No quick fixes.

Many thanks cat. I'm actually training as a reflexologist & as part of that I had to look at other alternatives so I've heard of the Bowen technique

Hi, welcome to the club! I qualified as a reflexologist last year. Make the most of all the practice treatments while you're training - I found they helped me a lot. Didn't realise quite how much until I qualified and lost the lovely free treatments. Good luck with your studies. x

I did see a Chiro and he really helped. But as well as having both Fibro and M.E. I also have separate nerve damage in my back, slipping disks (damn things just won't stay in place) perhaps massage therapy may be more useful?
