Pain when lying down

I have agonising pain in my ribs and back when I've been in bed for a few hours. I start off feeling comfortable but wake frequently through the night in agony. If I try and move the pain is even worse but it hurts too much to stay in the same position. Does anyone else have this problem?I got a new mattress 6 mths ago in the hope it would help but it hasn't.😩

Morning, I do have too turn frequently as I get very stiff, good mattress as well , I do sometimes get up and stretch abit and try go back too sleep, heat tends too help me so the hot water bottles come out even when it’s warm , last nite I had the fan one side as it was a hot evening and couple hot water bottles (bit of a mixture) today I’ve rubbed ibuprofen in places as sore and uncomfortable, laters a good soak with some Epsom salts in the bath. Broken sleep is horrid so I feel for you x

I've not slept in a bed for years. Can't do it as it is way too painful, the only way for me is a riser/recliner chair but even then the maximum amount of sleep is 4 hours. Sorry I can't be more positive. I use biofreeze gel, tens machine, epsom salt baths. It's trial and error to see what may work for you.

Hello Dinkie, I hope you are ticking over , 4 hours is not a lot for you , yes the bio freeze /ibuprofen and lots of supply of Epsom salts (when it’s on offer I get a few more bags) I woke up this morning felt like a combination of the Tin woman that had been run over by a tractor 😩, wish I had a magic button for us all , how are you doing with the extreme heat ? Xx

Hi there Yassytina, I am bumbling along as usual. I hate the heat, I have to have prescription cream and factor 50 at all times between March and November🙄🫤 some weird skin problem which makes me ultra sensitive to UV. Even wearing clothes hurts. It's a real problem with work uniform so I just have shirts a couple of sizes too big in the hope it doesn't hurt too much.

I know that run over by a tractor feeling really well as most fibro folk do☹️ Doesn't matter what time of year fibro always likes to give us something to keep reminding us it's there. I'm hoping it will rain today so that I don't have to drag myself out to water the garden. I'm under strict instructions from the grandchildren not to let their strawberries and sunflowers die😁 They are away at the moment and I have to send photos so they can see how much the plants have grown.

Aww bless them, you’re doing well too go going and working too, are you part time Dinkie ?as with running a house etc all adds up. It’s cooler here today in Suffolk after a hot one yesterday. When I think years back I could be outside gardening for hours , nowadays 10 mins hurt which is just a real shame for me , I bet you will love hearing about their holiday when they come back xx

I haven't worked fulltime for years, part time is more than enough. I only continue because I know without working I would quickly become reclusive and that just wouldn't be good for my mental health. Like you, gardening for any length of time is a thing of the past. I have a gardener now who comes in once a month, wish it was more often but it's too expensive, and so the garden is kept under control. I've long come to the conclusion that youth is wasted on the young😂 think of all those things we could do if we were younger and fitter.

I get this too. For me it feels like my ribs are laying on a number of marbles, hurts like heck, have to keep turning. Wake up 3-4 times a night or go most of the night awake. Then get up in the morning feeling very fatigued with stiff and painful back, legs, arms and hands.

I feel your pain. I bought a new mattress in the hope that this would help but it didn’t, my mattress was one that had buttons on it and when I lay down could feel everyone digging in me felt like I was laying on spikes. The only way I solved the problem was by buying a foam topper (think it was a silent night one) since having this my sleep has improved and no longer feel like I’m laying on spikes. Hope this helps. 😊

Hi there, yes as well as Fibro (or because of it) I get issues with my ribs and back. My chiro says that my ribs (sometimes behind/ next to my shoulder blade, pinch the muscles/ tissue between them and it inflamed causing wider spread issues in back due to the knock on effect.

I’m currently going through an episode at the moment. I ice the area and take BBC anti inflammatory pills. My chiro does acupuncture and massage. It tends to clear after a few weeks.

Good luck
