HiDoes anyone had any dealining with pain clinic's.

Doctor rhought it might help me with my pain. Been waiting months for the call that came yesterday. What a let down. After several quesstons said he didnt think he could help and spent most of the time on the call concerned that i got up several times during the night to use the toliet and snored regularly.

He said i couldnt have pain everywhere and be more precise.

How can you get diagnosed on the telephone.

Now going back to my doctor

Any suggestions

I went to the pain clinic, before COVID, the doctor said just to carry on taking my prescribed meds because she couldn't prescribe any thing else. It was just a waste of time for me.Since I've cut one of the meds (Gabapentin) out completely. I use a Magnesium Spray and I have a weighted blanket both of these help. Also I pace myself and try not to do too much at once.

Thanks for your replyThought perhaps it was me thinking it was a waste of time .

Seems there is no point running pain clinics if they don't do anything to help poeple. Without actually seeing me I felt he didn't believe me and thinks I've got sleep acknea due to the fact that I get up through the night to use the toliet snore and as the day goes on if I try and do too much I feel really tired and have a foggy brain

Once again thanks

You're welcome. I don't know what I expected when I went to the Pain Clinic, it was early on after my diagnosis, perhaps I was hoping for a cure! Ha ha, now I know better! I was chatting with my husband earlier and I told him that I would rather wake up in the morning in pain than not wake up at all!

they don’t they are complete waste of money ,the lady said I should walk more and listen to tinkly music to help with stress and sleepless nights ,but walking causes more pain .like all doc they say just take your meds and everything will be fine .

I am under Pain Management Clinic " care ".Its pointless for me.

After waiting for around 18 months, got an appointment with a consultant August 2021.

Didn't read all the letter and went to the hospital in the middle of a flare.

They made a huge fuss but the receptionist arranged for the consultant to see me.

He was straight forward with me - NHS pain clinic is useless because of the long wait - not enough spots. He advised me to check CBD and refer me to pain clinic coordinator.

About 3-4 months later I received a call from very understanding coordinator and arranged to be put on the waiting list of clinic of my choice.

After another 6 months a recieved an appointment letter.

Ridiculous location - no parking nearby, paid or free.

Inside - a maze without map.

Very friendly physiotherapist but she herself agreed that it's pointless for me to visit her again if in this must pain.

She emailed me some exercises and started calling me every 6-8 weeks.

As I am not able to do any physical activities our appointment are about help with insomnia.

I took the decision on our next call to ask for alternative help or to cancel the sessions, as this is going nowhere and there are people who will benefit, but not me.

Apologies for the long reply

Thanks for the replySeems the nhs is just wasting money on this pain clinic idea

I rember my nephew using them a few years ago

I think the only thing he got from it is me met his wife there.

Might ask the doctor for some physio though if it has helped you

Many thanks

In April there was a post/invitation here from one of the admins, can not find it but here are the links:Flippinfibromyalgiapain.co.uk

- very good video, can watch it on YouTube

And

painconcern.org.uk

- extrimely helpful podcasts - I am in love with them.

Specially the podcasts - I got more help from them and my CB therapist in 1 month, then Pain Management Clinic, Physio Therapy and GP combined in the last 3 years.

My pain clinic was great, although he couldn’t help me with pain, as I am intolerant to just about every fm meds, but he referred me back to the rheumatologist and also a specialist professor psychologist who showed me tools as to how to trick my brain, through pain and anxiety. I have seen him about three times, for a period of 6 weeks each. I am surprised yours didn’t refer you to a rheumatologist who can diagnose you. Ask your doctor to refer you. Good luck

Thanks for the replySaw a rheumatologist last June had a telephone call in December (waste of time) and now another appointment in October

Even my doctor cat believe it only got the phone call due to my doctor emailing them again

I'm sure it's thermae for everyone suffering with this

But I haven't managed to see anyone who seems to want to try and help

Doctor from the pain clinic call told me it's something I just need to manage myself

Thanks again

I have the same problem with my wife.she seems to have several problems.our Doctors are doing their best and prescribing various pain tablets etc.none seem to kill the pain-especially in the shoulders-inner arm etc.so the question is.has anyone consulted a Pain Clinic or Hospital who have been able to come up with anything.even a minor improvement would help.

Hi there, I went to the pain clinic. They told me to change my diet and lifestyle and exercise like walking. This is after I told them about how much pain I was in, especially in my feet. It was a complete joke they even wanted to reduce my meds. I thought I would be upset when I came out, but I'm so used to being left deflated I just shrugged my shoulders and went home. The didn't expect anything different to be honest.

Thanks Luckily I only had a phone call that was bad enough. Dont know how i would feel if i had spent the time and energy actually doing a face to face

I wouldn't say it is a waste of time if they have identified you have sleep apnoea. Once you get the right treatment for this, you will notice a massive difference.

Thanks but he has based that on the fact that i get up to the toliet 1-3 times a night sometimes never and i snore sometimes. I dont fall alseet through the day . I did say if i try and do too much i feel reallh tired. He wasn't interest in my pain at all got fixed on me using the toliet at night and thats what he kept repeating.I get more help from this forum

went to a couple of pain clinics. The first one I went to said as I had arthritis in several places they couldn’t help and I was referred to another one at a different hospital. But whilst we were having a group lecture, we were told the pain was all in our heads. Someone should of told my X-rays that and my MRI’s. 😂 the second one couldn’t help as I was awaiting hearing surgery. Why I just couldn’t sit at the front I don’t know. Anyhow all the people I know, who have attended the course have said it was a waste of time. But each to their own you could find it useful.

When I went about 4yrs ago I walked with my walker for short distances not my power chair,

The lady asked what hurt????!!!!! Everything! She drew a picture of a toe kicking something then a gate, to which she said I have the gate that won't open??

I asked if I could draw? A large me with long stretched out breasts because the bra felt like I was being crushed by a python and my gate had got up and walked out.I think that will be all, this time.

A week later I had a letter asking me to attend my local mental health clinic

I went to one before COVID , it was a 6 weeks course, there was 4 different health people there 1 was for physio to show you how to loosen yourself up , to be honest there was 17 of us in the group and they all said what a waste of time and effort, obviously we try everything before asking for pain clinic to see how other people cope and so on , when I told my GP he said well you could have you the internet for that , I hope you have better luck 🤞 take care
