Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2017 when I was experiencing wide spread pain. Was on Pregabalin 300mg twice a day and Amitriptyline 30mg but have since stopped the Pregabalin and now only take Amitriptyline & paracetamol.
Have had issues with disturbed sleep for several years now where I wake several times during the night and do not feel refreshed at all after a nights sleep.
For the past few months I have had issues where upon waking I have had a fuzzy / hangover feeling and bouts of nausea which come and go.
Just wondering if these are common Fibro symptoms ?

the nausea and overhang may be the meds, was once on the amitriptyline however was so long ago am a little foggy to what did, nhs.uk/medicines/amitriptyl...
remember did not ease my sleep, was moved onto many mind relaxers before finally finding
promethazine fluid its to help sleep at night and is actually an allergy med not a mind relaxer
Probably is your Amitriptyline but I think you can also feel this way with poor sleep too. I know I feel like this, especially when I'm on an earlier shift start with little sleep but then I use Amitriptyline too so ..... 🤷 You could maybe ask your GP for an anti sick tablet. Metoclopramide is the one I use occasionally, takes that horrible gadzy feeling away in no time.
It was because of poor sleeping that I developed secondary fibro, to rheumatoid arthritis. So I was prescribed Amitriptyline with a starting dose of 10mgs. Over the years I have needed to increase the dosage to 100mgs to keep fibro at bay. So maybe an increased dosage make be appropriate for you. Have a discussion/chat with your GP to find an answer to your sleep problems. Good luck.
hi I also started off on Amitriptyline starting at 10mg they have now increased mine to 25mg ,my sleeping is also very poor , although I’m exhausted the pain keeps me awake .
It's great that you have found relief with Amitriptyline and paracetamol. In terms of your sleep, have you considered talking to your doctor about adding a medication like trazodone to your regimen? Trazodone is a medication commonly used to treat insomnia, and it may help improve the quality of your sleep and reduce the morning fatigue and brain fog.
It's important to keep in mind that finding the right treatment plan can take time, and it may involve trying different medications or combinations of medications. Be sure to keep your doctor updated on your symptoms and any changes in your medication regimen.
I hope this information is helpful, and I wish you all the best in managing your fibromyalgia symptoms.
Hello. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2017.I used to take amitriptyline but it made my head fuzzier than normal and I would fall asleep but not for long.
I now take pregablin 200mg 3 times a day and sertraline 150mg per day to take the edge off my fibromyalgia.
Unfortunately broken sleep is common also sleeping several hours and get up feeling no better for it is very common. You can go from broken sleep, insomnia to over sleeping in a matter of days.
I try to roll with it, I don't fight it anymore as that was causing me more anxiety than normal and making my fibro flares worse. Fibro fog is a big thing, I forget what I'm talking about regularly, frustrating 😤 but you gotta just roll with it. I'm fortunate that my friends and family are aware of my condition and we will often laugh about it, I used to get very angry but that just made everything worse.
I'm still learning as I go, always on the look out for new things to try xx
may I ask what time you take your amitriptyline, if you take it later than 7-8pm I find it does give you a fuzzy head and can cause nausea due to lack of sleep. I did have a lot of sleepless nights for years until I started listening to the calm app which has meditations, sleep stories and sleep music which I find helpful. Hope this helpsx
I normally take my Amitriptyline around 7.30pm and have been fine with it since starting it in 2017. Only over the last 6 months or so have I started to suffer with a fuzzy head & intermittent nausea upon waking.
Have requested a referral back to the Fibro clinic who can hopefully review my medication.
I was on Amitriptyline since, seemed not to be working too well any more and now on Duloxetine, didn't have sleep probs with Amitriptyline, but the Duloxetine does seem to affect my sleep, have a lot of trouble dropping off, but only been on it for a few months, so still trying. have been pretty fuzzy and dopey all through Fibro, since 2007, but could be RA and leftover chemo stuff, so probably not much help.
Your symptoms in the morning sound like amitriptyline side effects, I had similar symptoms when I took it, it was lasting all day & affecting my work so I had to stop it. However, its unusual for side effects to start after you have been using it for some time unless the dose has been recently increased? it will be best to see your GP just to rule out other things. Take care x
