Hi received from HealthUnlocked the article about CBD & Magnesium cream. I read the trustpilot comments and thought - sounds good to me.

So ordered a tube. Fine - then I thought - that was silly as didn't check whether it interferes with the WARFARIN I have to take. Yes, you've guessed it - its a GREAT BIG NO-NO - can't have CBD if on warfarin. Talk about brain fog took over. Anyway just want to let others know BEFORE they buy ( before checking interactions on their meds). KEEP SMILING xo

You raise an important issue in that CBD cannot be taken orally at the same time as over 90% of prescribed meds, including warfarin. This is because CBD is broken down in the same place in the liver (by a group of enzymes called cytochrome P450), as are so many meds. So, either your meds may be 'blocked' from working, so they aren't effective, or you could receive an accidental overdose from your meds due to this.

However, if you are discussing a cream, as this doesn't involve the alimentary canal, then it may be perfectly safe to use. I would suggest you discuss this with your pharmacist/GP to get their opinion.

Anyone contemplating taking CBD oil orally (drops, gummies, etc) should always talk to their pharmacist/GP prior to trying these if they are taking any prescribed meds, & even over the counter ones.

I was recommended to leave a minimum of 2 hours between meds and cbd for this very reason

I'm wondering who made this recommendation? Not saying it's wrong, but, because everyone's metabolism (& the meds they take) are different, I generally consider a 4 hours gap to err on the side of caution, tho perhaps just a 2 hour gap if taking over the counter meds (that don't contain codeine). Definitely a time gap is needed!

On another forum I've read about a few GPs saying that there's no problem with the med you're taking & CBD, which was so wrong, as they were both broken down in the same place in the liver.

Really good to also raise awareness here that CBD can interact with meds if taken orally.

Thank you for your advice its very helpful to me and others. I haven't tried the cream yet (what a coward I am) but next time I'm out I intend to ask a pharmacist as I do take a lot of tablets per day for various problems. As I said I had a stupid moment ordering the cream but heyho we live and learn daily. Take care and a big (gentle) hug to you

I spoke with my gp and warfarin nurse when I wanted to start taking cbd oil, and the consensus was that I could, as my interest was checked regularly which would indicate any changes in the blood. The cbd oil helped me so much with pain relief, sleep and stress. Then I changed to rivaroxaban and no longer take it as it isn’t recommended as it may not be a safe mix.

I recall a gp laughing at me a long time ago about something topical she was trying to prescribe that had an ingredient in I was allergic to, apparently nothing gets through the skin barrier (according to her). With hindsight I don’t think she meant it quite literally, just that it wouldn’t get to my gut.
