brain pain - this is how it works

Love this quote: "There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact"

Anyhow see what you think.

Didn't find the video particularly controversial as I've long viewed my pain this way anyway so unfortunately already having the paradigm shift hasn't reduced my pain. It did, however, stop me seeking or taking any meds for my pain, that and they didn't work anyway.

Although disregarding my fibro pain pretty much completely allows me to do lots of intense exercise, which I do everyday, it hasn't made me capable of dealing with insomnia, migraine and bladder pain. And I have developed bad panic attacks particularly in relation to long periods of not sleeping and scuba diving, an activity I don't get to do that often, bc I have to go abroad, but that I love and is very important to me.

While I didn't think much of the video his website is a different matter and think might prove very helpfull to me.

I just spent 3 days away with my young children and husband. It was an extremely successful trip, the kids were very happy, it was surprisingly chilled out and I was in unrelenting pain the whole time. Everything was going unusually well and I was really happy with the way things were going and yet I was being tortured by my body the whole time.

So needless to say I still need help! Thanks for the post.

I understand what you are saying with the relaxation and still pain, what I can make of that for me too, is the rewirement takes time. I definitely need the therapy to keep me on track, they assessed me for the best therapy, their are a few options such as EMDR and emotional awareness and expression therapy, they seem to follow a similar pattern to desensitise, then relearn. Within a couple of weeks I have more comfort.

Not sure if you ruminate but I found when I was relaxing this would kick in and although resting the tension was increasing, Dr Sarno seems to have a very clear picture of this, he calls it TMS.

I much enjoyed Dr Sarno, explanation to pain in the body, he has a few books that for me are a pure medicine, there is an audio version on amazon too.

I've been reading through their website throughout the day, kids make it difficult to get big spells of time to do anything. I'm particularly interested in the section labelled "outcome independence" this was a particular stumbling block for me when I was meditating and practicing mindfullness. The Buddhist concept called "Chitta", loosely speaking, describes our inner narrative, the story we tell ourselves everyday. Things like " I'm just more sensitive than other people" or " I'm just not as strong as other people", " I'm not capable of profound change" etc. We seem soothed by often negative but known notions, anything but the unknown or something optimistic that could lead to crushing disappointment. So not only do we stay in our rut but we activing tend to the groove, reinforcing it over and over, crushing any internal dissent that it could be different.

A lot of the methods described in this website are actually old buddhist concepts, however part of the problem I had with Buddhism is that it was essentially designed for men who's family no longer needed them to go off and live on a mountain and devote their time to these concepts. It was not designed for people with young children. The website has I think a more manageable approach, that might actually be possible to do while being constantly busy and tired.

I can understand your situation. Not sure if you located Dr Sarno TMS info, here is a link to a guided programme online.

It is intensive but the results are positive and staggering.
