Pain management

I'm looking for any hints and tips on managing pain. I've recently been diagnosed and the GP's haven't been very helpful. I want to sing the song but who sings it.... I'm sick and tired of always being sick and tired, that's kind of how I'm feeling right now. The smallest of tasks makes me so tired.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forums. You can find general information on fibromyalgia at our website fmauk.org and our patient information booklets at fmauk.org/publications

My pain management toolkit includes medication, cbd, pacing, activity/exercise, mindfulness, meditation, holistic therapies, weighted blankets, heat, distraction.

I wish I could help, it's the same with my GP, can't cure it but won't give the relevant pain control. I get stop signals even if I've done nothing. Strange really, the GP is happy to prescribe codeine, an opiate and addictive that in some people converts to morphine in their bodies, but not give anything more effective. go on like this. May have to look to procuring the not so legal stuff.

Not sure if you have been advised of the NHS Pain Management facility, It was something that was not pointed out to me! Anyhow your local hospital will have this facility and I found the information helpful. They also ran a group for individuals with fibro for a time, another area worth looking at is CBT, it can help with behaviour and anxiety, how to approach things differently. For your fatigue try to change your routine, look at finding some more down time and keep a regular sleep pattern, even if you do not feel tired, it is important to keep the routine for your overall wellbeing.

Only thing that works for me is a hot bath and co-codamol although I try to limit co-co- codamol to once or twice a week.

The 12 hour ibuprofen is also good. I get these from home bargains.

When I was recently reconfirmed with FM by a rheumatologist he recommended to my GP that I be referred to a Pain Clinic, which the GP was happy to do. I didn't go this time round, but the option is there - all through the NHS. I would ask your GP to refer you to an NHS Pain Clinic - they don't prescribe meds, just deal with other methods of pain control
