I've been recently diagnosed with fibro and also have inflammatory arthritis. Once in a while and out of the blue, I get these terrible stabbing pains on the outer side of my foot - it's excruciating, like being electrocuted or someone actually stabbing my foot with a knife. Sometimes it comes in two or three waves, but then it's gone again.
As far as I know it's not an arthritis thing, so I was wondering if anyone else here suffers from something similar, and if it's a fibro thing?

I would very much like to know what is causing the symptoms you’ve described as I suffer from them too. Aside from being painful it’s also quite unnerving as it comes out of the blue.
I know what you mean. I can go weeks without it happening and then suddenly it strikes. The pain is unbelievable when it happens and then I get anxious, waiting for it to strike again, which it usually does over the next few days - and then it's gone again.
I have terrible pain in my feet, particularly in the arches, I do have arthritis too but the pain is not arthritic, it really is a pain that is unbearable and means I cannot walk sometimes. After speaking to my podiatrist it seems that it is very common for pockets of Fibro pain to affect feet and hands, which I have both.
Thanks for sharing and sorry you're dealing with such terrible pain. That's interesting to know about the pockets of fibro pain. I get a lot of hand pain too, and although a lot of that was initially caused by arthritis and by some permanent damage done, my rheumatologist is convinced that the arthritis is under control and she can't give me an explanation for my hand pain. Maybe it's fibro after all.
I'm learning so much about this condition, I have suffered with Vertigo type symptoms on and off for years and Iv found out this can be caused by Fibro, I get a stabbing pain in my heart area too which freaked me out at first but again found out that this can be a symptom of Fibro. The NHS have not studied this condition enough and how debalatating it is, it is random indiscriminate and life changing for many people.
My feet/ ankles, hands & knees are the worst for me.
I still have a lot to learn about it, but the more I read and hear, the more unnerved I feel. Here's hoping we find some pockets of relief here and there from this horrible condition.
Think you’re a mirror of me 😂😂; I’ve had an mri on my feet which showed they both have osteo and bursitis (inflammatory arthritis is under control with meds)
Hi mjrminor, I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this. I get a similar sounding pain too, it's intense, feels like a sharp nerve pain and seems to come out of nowhere. So far, for me, this only happens when I have bare feet or am just wearing socks. I have experimented with different slippers and now constantly wear crocs indoors which helps greatly. All the best
Hi pokerface69. Sorry to hear you're experiencing this pain too. Mine seems to happen either in bed at night - waking me up screaming sometimes - or if I've been on my feet a lot. I've had orthotic insoles for the last few years and indoors I wear orthotic slipper shoes. Can't seem to wear anything else. But you saying it feels like nerve pain sounds about right.
It's like an electric shock isn't it. The pain takes your breath away. I was trying to find a way to walk without using the outsides of my feet which is totally impractical! I'm sorry to hear that you are getting this at night too. Unmanageable pain at night really is torture. I did have orthotic slippers and insoles for a while but actually found them too hard and they aggravated my pain. I know we're all different but I find the way that crocs are slightly soft and bouncy more helpful. I did speak to my GP but I have found that once you are diagnosed with Fibro' everything is put down to that.
Oh you're totally right about that - when I was first diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, I was told every ailment I had was 'down to the arthritis'. Now I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well, I'm sure it will be the same. So annoying... I'm glad the crocs are providing some comfort for you at least. But yes, electric shock is a very accurate way to describe the pain.
I totally identify with this excruciating pain which completely takes you by surprise. It feels very much like electric shock/stabbing and stops you in your tracks. Unfortunately for me this pain is not exclusive to one area of my body, I agree it disappears as quickly as it appears and is unnerving. I'm having MRI scans on my feet next week query erosive arthritis, here the pain is mainly in the insteps. I also get the same intense pain in my fingers and wrist and down my right arm. I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and SLE. So reassuring to hear you're not alone with unexplained symptoms that seem to baffle the doctors.
