Muscle spasms cause them to jump, off the bed…… and I’m fully awake! They are painful & sometimes go on for HOURS! Anyone else out there with the same?

Hi NavyWave, if you can manage a bath adding Epsom salts or Magnesium flakes is really good.

Magnesium supplement and Magnesium oil/spray directly on to the legs/arms works well for some people too, definitely does for me.

Tonic water, has to have quinine (sp) I think? Movement is good too, little stretches throughout the day just a few at a time can make such a difference.

I'm sure others will chip in with more info soon but hope some of this helps for now ☺️

Be careful if you are on statins when drinking or having grapefruit, can harm your liver

Yes indeed, I used to be on a statin , If people do not read the instructions or the pharmacist dose not mention this people maybe unaware of this, any helpful advice here for members always helpful Thankyou.

Hiya NavyWave, I feel that pain! When I first developed nerve damage/Fibro I had terrible leg spasms and visited an acupuncturist three times a week. It helped calm my tremors. I do find switching position slightly when the pain starts helps and find heat can be comforting so use electric heat pads almost every day.

Hi, SlothMode! Thanks for the reply! I had forgotten about acupuncture …and I used it for Back pain a decade ago! I’ll call tomorrow (it’s nearly 11pm) I do heat towels in the dryer, then wrap my legs. …sometimes it works & I actually fall asleep! Thanks again! 💕

Hi muscle spasms are horrendous. Not sure but quinine has been able to help. Natural quini e is found in tonic water.I also take betahistine an which is a anti histamine excuse spellings. Not sure if they right. xxxxx

Hi NavyWaveI too suffer with muscle spasms and sympathise with you because I know how extremely painful they are. I have got any wonder cures to share but I started drinking more water which has really helped.

Thanks, Skylight…… I try to drink between 1/2 & 1 full gallon of water a day! Since the Covid debacle, I haven’t been as physically active as usual…… I know that sitting too long can exacerbate them! Thanks again !💕

Hi there, a few months I suddenly had a bout of muscle spasms rippling across my back. For the women here I'd describe it as similar to labour pains as they kept easing/intensifying for hours. I had days when I couldn't get out of bed until they subsided. I researched the hell out of it as this was a new symptom for me. I get spasms that come at me out of the blue and don't generally last long so this was new. Through research, I discovered MSM powder. Honestly within an hour of taking it the spasms subsided. It took a few days for them to go completely but I now take MSM powder daily. It has kept those incredibly painful spasms/contractions away. MSM is natural and from what I've read/watched, has no interactions. It helps with so many ailments - now about 5 of my friends and their relatives are taking it. I will be taking it forever. FYI I've had fibro for circa four years and had never had those terrible spasms until recently. NSAIDS don't work on my fibro pain nor does any other painkiller. CBD oil does but didn't prevent/nor help with the spasms. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Thanks, Fibroandme……… What exactly is MSM ? Here in The States, it’s MainStreamMedia! LOL! I’ve used CBD OIL, but I need 925-1000mg and it needs to be taken DAILY to be effective and it’s expensive!! I’m 80 yrs old and in pain somewhere from stem to stern! Doctors these days are USELESS…… at least in America……… afraid to prescribe pain meds for relief!! FIRST DO NO HARM, has become a joke!! I can’t remember the last time I had an uninterrupted nights sleep! I’ve lost weight, the pain is so bad, it makes me 🤮so I eat very little………it’s a vicious circle, which Doctors could alleviate if they wants to!

😂. I should have thought of that re MSM - media won’t help you much these days on any subject. It means the same here. Methylsulfonylmethane, more commonly known as MSM, is a popular dietary supplement used to treat a wide array of symptoms and conditions.

It’s a sulfur-containing compound found naturally in plants, animals and humans. It can also be produced in a lab to create dietary supplements in powder or capsule form.

Here’s a video that gives a really good overview

And an article (which starts with description above)

It’s cheap too. Pharma don’t want you to know about it. Pharmaceuticals often have horrible side effects (I did when I was on them) so maybe on this occasion your doc is helping😉.

This is the one I bought. You need to be sure it’s from a good source. The sell on Amazon but it was out of stock when I tried.

Good on you at 80 getting on here and searching for answers. We Fibro warriors have to help ourselves snd each other. Most docs know v little about our condition. I hope this helps.

Thanks again, Fibroandme! I have an appointment with my new primary tomorrow and I will ask her about MSM! I have never heard of it!I’ll let you know!💕from 🇺🇸

You’re welcome. I’d also watch and read as much as you can and make your own decision. My GP hadn’t heard of this nor does she know anything about Fibro. But she is open to learning. Many docs are not. I hope new one is. Best of luck.

Hi Again Fibro&me! My Dr. is familiar with MSM but did not prescribe it!I was on Flexeril for years with my previous Dr. soon after I DC’d it, the SERIOUS TREMORS began! My current G.P. has prescribed Flexeril again, starting tonight…… I’ll soon find out if I get relief! Thanks for your input!!
