Pain one side only

Does anyone’s pain only occur on one side of the body?

When reading through different articles about the characteristics of fibromyalgia it almost always comes up with the same thing; must be both sides, above and below the waist, basically widespread.

I’m keen to know if this actually happens or does pain have to be both sides to go towards a diagnosis?

(Obviously I’m aware of there’s many more factors to consider a fibromyalgia diagnosis)

I would have a look at crps and have a word with your gp

Hi there. I think given that the medical establishment don't have the foggiest idea as to the symptoms or prognosis it's a little difficult to diagnose completely. It falls into a group asymptomatic diagnosis.Hope that helps my friend although as vague as that sounds. Very possible

My pain is one sided but hops from side to side. It is predominantly on the left. My rheumatologist talked about it being diffuse (so in more than one place) rather than being on both sides equally at the same time. But as Cybergirl says we don't really have a good benchmark for diagnosis.

it moving is something that is understood but if the pain is only on one side of the body and does not move then it needs to be investigated for the underlying cause in case it is tied to the location or look at CRPS.

Desquinn, I am answering their question about whether my pain is on one side, "Does anyones pain occur on one side of their body". I have simply shared my experience with them. Happy for you to offer your advice re: further investigation but please don't try to marginalise what I have shared.

I was bot trying to "marginalise" your comment at all but to address the point within it "But as Cybergirl says we don't really have a good benchmark for diagnosis."

I was also reaffirming your situation of it being a mobile pain from one side or area to another as being recognised within the diagnosis.

Hi, my fibro which I've had for about 15 years basically exists on my left side. I have tender points all over my body but the core of my fibro starts from my tmj (left jaw) and sets off spasms in my muscles up/down this side. The right side joins in when I'm having a flare/ill. YAY!! My GP aware plus various medical staff over the years. I no longer take medication; just paracetamol at night. Also, on a strict(ish!) diet which really helps. Still having my menopause which is hell on its own but likes to join in with any fun!!! Take Chinese herbs for this from my acupuncturist who I see every month - been my absolute life saver. Personally, has kept me sane throughout my fibro journey, which the NHS could never do. Every person who has fibro is different and finds ways of dealing with it individually. Take care:)
