Hi there, 3 months is a very long time to be in the kind of pain your describing. While fibro pain can remain in the back ground and never completely go away for many people with chronic pain. The pain can and does tend to wax and wain. And yes it can and does stop for hours, days, weeks and months at a time.
I have suffered with some kind of pain on a daily basis for 40yrs but if I was suffering at the level of pain you say you have had for 3 months I personally would be talking with my GP about it. There could be something other apart from fibro going on. The GP maybe able to offer you pain medication /management advice xx

I call my gp every week about 3x and they have even requested an urgent referral to not only to physio but to the Orthopedic consultant too.All they say is its a long waiting list due to Covid.
I've asked for a scan or xray but my gp says it's not necessary?
I really don't know what else to do.
Thanks for listening!
Hi,I was diagnosed 4 years ago with fybromyalgia and was still working 2 jobs a day never had z day off sick in that time but now i have been off work since January with chronic severe pain which is not getting better but getting worse. Some days I just sit and cry as many times i have not made it to the bathroom in time,it's embarrassing,I struggle to do normal daily things. I dont feel like a mum or partner now as everything I do is so painful. I had 5 lots of Acupuncture which done nothing for me so was told there was nothing else he could do . I have had zoom sessions with my employer and OT and had a separate phone appointment with another OT and she said the same as the first one that it looks as if I will be signed off on ill health early retirement. I applied for PIP in May had a tx from them to say they had received it but I haven't heard anything since. I know myself that I won't be able to go back to work which is very hard to get my head round. I now have a walking stick and cant go out on my own my partner has to shower me and wash my hair as I can't even do that. I feel as if my life has been taken away from me and trying to get a GP appointment is the hardest thing ever. I am still waiting for an appointment with the pain clinic but its always the same answer COVID. But being on here really helps me as you then know that you are not alone which helps me another. Take care and keep smiling.
Oh yes it helps reading other people are perhaps going through far worse than me and that I'm not alone!I lost my job at Debenhams in 2020 due to covid-19 as all Debenhams stores had to close down. Then I was struck down with covid-19 in January 2021 I was pretty bad. But thankfully I survived . After being so ill with the virusI started these pains in my shoulders in May this year and have been in tremendous pain since. Mind you I've had these pains from 2017 and had 3 steroid injections which helped. Now it has flared up and is far worse than before.
I wake up every night with sever pain . I pace up and down sit with hot water bottle and take some painkillers to take the edge off the pain. Its awful.
I have quite a lot of other health problems too.
Hope you're having a good Bank Holiday anyway.
Nice to hear from you do take care
Pain is horrible isn’t it just? Do you take any pain killers? Have you thought of asking to be referred to a pain management specialist?
Yes , I'm on Codeine , Diazepam and pregabalin. But doesn't do much except make me drowsy. Not been referred yet to pain management.
GP advised Chiropractor but I can't afford it.
I am sure you could ask to be referred to pain management. Also to try something else medication wise if what you are taking doesn’t work? Sometimes it takes trialling many medications to find the right fit for you. Hope you feel better soon
Sorry to hear that, I’ve had a really bad flare since about May, and I tried three lots of antidepressants for the pain and anxiety, none of them helped because of side effects, the last one duloxetine has helped though, I started on a low dose and my anxiety is so much better, they will slowly put the dosage up and hopefully it will help with the pain , Diazepam should only be taken short term in an emergency, has your Dr suggested antidepressants at all.
My doc thinks all this pain maybe due to me having a under active Thyroid known as Thyroiditis? As I'm under going all sorts of tests for this. So he's waiting for the test results to come back to see what treatment I need to have. If that makes any sense! Yes Diazepam was given for only one wk.
The pain is unbelievable. I wake up at 3 / 4 in the morning with it. Not much sleep , I try and go to bed early just so I can get some sleep but its only for about 3 hours till I'm woken up with the pain.
Do you think that it's possible that you might have Long Covid - on top of everything else? If so, that might offer some possibilities.
I was thinking the same but apparently my doc said no its not long covid. Its so frustrating at the mo with all this waiting list for treatments and appointments! My doctor said there's not much more they can do from their side except to wait for my appointments to the physio and Orthopedic consultant. I just have to manage my pain till then unfortunately 😪
oh i so hear you, after breaking my shoulder and arm some weeks ago, nothing but nothing has relieved the pain,Morphine and Zapian plus anything else i get my hands on is making the slightest difference. And it is so wearing, all i can do is pray that you soon feel much better.x
I had this severe neck and shoulder pain last November and was referred to physio which really helped. I now do these stretches all the time as part of a daily exercise routine and it keeps the pain at bay. Not sure where you are but in some areas you can self refer to physio. I've also just started on duloxitine which I'm hoping does the trick for me once meds kick in and in the meantimea taking beta blockers and Co drydamol which I will come off once the duloxitine starts to work. I would definitely phone the doctors and say you want the medication changed.
Just spent two weeks with an upgraded nerve pain. It went from wasp sting pins and needles to someone holding a lit cigarette (other high temperature instruments of torture are available) against and in my arms and legs. I let the medical people know. but it was weathered with no change to medication. We came to the conclusion my condition was being aggravated by the heat. Could be something similar with you.It has now subsided somewhat with the odd little beggar stabbing me now and again just to remind me I alive. Also have a bad case of the shakes that would make a river dancer jealous.
Hope things improve at your end, as others have said talk to your doctor. No one should go through that. I did not take any more medication as a personal choice but I was close to begging for something.
My heart goes out to you 💕
