Good evening all, wanted to share a little good news, after 10 years of being on 20mg of amitriptyline I have managed to wean myself down to 10mg in about a month. I thought it would have a bearing on my pain levels but I thought wrong, I always considered amitriptyline as a pain helper. I am really happy, I may try to eliminate totally eventually. Hope u are all as well as you can be

Evening!!
Nice to read some positive news 😀
Well done you. I was on 10mg for 8 years but fed up with feeling like a zombie , racing heart and problems with my eye so over 4-5 months weaned myself off it. Probably too quickly as the withdrawal was hellish and took about 6 months after that to adjust my sleep pattern, etc. There are the odd days when I wish I still had my amitriptylene crutch but overall I'm not going back on drugs. Pain is tolerable so will live with that. One day they'll find a cure hopefully. Take care and good luck - personally it's worth the struggle living without amitriptylene
Good Morning. That is good news. I also reduced my Venlafaxine and found that as long as I don't stop taking it completely, it still seems to work. I was told that it is also a muscle relaxant which is why it helps. Thank goodness for medication otherwise I don't think I could cope. Best wishes.😊
I weaned myself off of Amytriptline 10mg at night as although I took it for 5 years it didn't improve anything. I am no worse or better without it.
Thanks all. sally444 interesting you mention venlafaxine - i am on this too but I tried to taper once and ended up hospitalised! So I am kinda scared to try again. Even reducing amitriptyline played havoc with my mind but not with my body.as Venlafaxine is a known AD I am concerned me tapering or trying to again will affect me mentally. What dose do you take?
