Severe pain on left side

I have bad pain under left breast but under ribcage. When i am stood up it is so severe I feel sick and just need to sit down. When i take a breath it hurts. I have Fybromyalgia and Osteoarthritis in my hands but I feel I have had enough. I had a relapse in January and have been signed off work ever since. I have been told by friends to ask for an MRI scan and I have reapplied for PIP. I am finding everything is getting too much even daily things I am struggling with.....any advice would be helpful

Hi, it sounds like costocondritis, but I could be wrong, it’s always best to get it checked out by a doctor, who can advise you, look it up, it’s very common with us fm, but as I said get it checked, as not everything is fm related. Try some pain relief creams if you have any, or pain meds for now.

Thank you for your advice its just that we have a lot of cancer in.our family from bowel to lung to bone and my dad passed away at 54 as his bowel cancer wasn't cdiagnised until 10 days before he passed and it was way too late and I am almost 54. My cousin passed almost a year ago aged 58 and his body was full of cancer he too was diagnosed way too late so it is just worrying as all my family are worried about me as I'm not the person I was x

Ok deb26bie , seeing as you have all this history, I would strongly advise you to get checked out, both my parents passed, one to leukaemia and one colitis, you don’t actually die from colitis, more a hospital blunder, so my advice is seek help now, a few simple blood tests can rule out most things, and if anything is wrong, they can catch it in time . I feel for you, it must be so worrisome, but you have to be strong, and make sure all is ok with you. Make the appointment, and let the doctor know your concerns and history. X

Hi deb26bie. 😊🌿🌸🦋

I agree with my precious friend Blue52. ♥️

98% of my family has died from every kind of cancer.

My mother at 67 lung cancer my brother 63 has lung cancer and dying now from multiple additional things.

So I know about how devastating it is for both victims and loved ones.

As Blue said be proactive…don’t put off being seen to rule it out/get treatment for whatever is diagnosed.

My thoughts and my prayers are with you as are my sincerest sympathies for your losses.

🙏🕊 💔

Let us know your outcome please. I will keep you in my prayers as I do nightly for everyone.

Best wishes much love.

EJ 🤗♥️🥰🙏🕊🌿🌸🦋

It's very hard to do daily things with the fybro but this is now extra things to try not to worry about but I will get them to listen to me. I need to be sorted as i have a 9 Yr old daughter and a 19 Yr old son who has CFS and possible Autism so every day is a real struggle for both us ...but thanks for your kind and caring reply 🙂

Oh deb 🤗🥰🙏 bless you hun.

I’m so sorry about your daily struggles with 2 special needs children.

I fostered such a child and although I don’t regret it the damage to my then undiagnosed conditions was relentless.

But regardless of that we have to treat ourselves because our loved ones need us so much.

You have my empathy sweetie.

I’m here whenever you need me sweetie.

Much love hugs and prayers.

EJ 🥰♥️🤗🙏🕊

Definitely get this checked out by asking for an urgent referral to a specialist by your GP. I feel that you should be having colonoscopy every 5 years after your fathers diagnosis. Let us know how you get on.

I would definitely speak to your gp about your concerns. You won’t get an mri scan though but will probably be given an X-ray. Don’t be fobbed off, many doctor and even consultants have tried to fob me off but I know my body as you will know yours. Good luck 🤞

Already had an xray a few weeks ago and it was clear but I will definitely be in touch today. Thanks.

I dismissed my chest pains as "just my fibromyalgia acting up" and ignoring it led to three weeks ago having my quadruple heart bypass operation.

Don't muck about with chest pain...speak to your GP and get your heart checked out.

A lot better than I expected.

I thought I'd be hobbling around like a frail old man for ages after the op but I already feel better than before.

I was very similar, put chest pains down to fm but wife phoned 999 and I was taken in and got two stents put in. AFew weeks later same pain called 999 again and this time is was the outer lining of my lungs sticking to my rib cage. It was very sore. As the dry skin peels off the rib it feels like razor blades cutting down your chest. I had another 999 and it is the cartilage between my sternum and ribs that are inflamed. This may sound a lot of times in AE but they insist call each time. If I actually did call each time I would be in weekly, fingers crossed I don't get it wrong.

Please check with your GP if you have an abdominal hernia? He or she can arrange for you to have an ultrasound scan if this is the case. I hope this helps and good luck sweetheart

Hi, I feel your pain I have it on the right side under my ribs and I feel sick when lying down! I’ve just endured the worse night so far with resorting to trying to sleep on the sofa but only managed 2 hours sleep, it’s draining isn’t it?You really do need to see a Dr they will probably send you for an ultrasound first, ( waste of time in my opinion!) ive waited since last October to see a consultant after having X-ray, ultrasound & MRI. I’m finally seeing him this Saturday, I also have family illnesses like you & I’m scared.

I do hope you are successful in finding out what’s wrong with you. Good luck

Anybody investigated gall bladder/ bile duct problem...eg with blood test to test for jaundice? Pain in right place, and some symptoms. Mine was missed at first , given antibiotics, then another GP a week later bothered to do bloods....

deb26bie profile image
deb26bie in reply to Judithdalston

Hi....I have no gall bladder had that removed years ago and all bloods have come back fine.

Judithdalston profile image
Judithdalston in reply to deb26bie

Ok, good, though told bile duct can still cause problem! Most of my fibro pains are mirrored ie both knees, wrists etc, so always concerned when only one side hurts.

deb26bie profile image
deb26bie in reply to Judithdalston

I have severe pain in lower middle and upper back. The pain between my shoulder blades has gone over my shoulders and into my chest and down the left side. It's my legs knees feet it's everywhere. People do not realise what Fybro is like I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Judithdalston profile image
Judithdalston in reply to deb26bie

Yes, I must admit it’s more like ‘which bits aren’t hurting?’ I try to see my gentle McTimoney trained chiropractor ( she now has to call herself a spinal manipulator) regularly, who does slight adjustment along spine which helps hips, rib cage, shoulders, neck and as they are put back means arms and legs tend to feel better too. I used to go every 6-8 weeks but with covid it’s proven difficult and just had more acute lower back problem sorted yesterday. May be worth looking for a local practioner who does this gentle manipulation, not a chiropractor, osteopath, sports massager etc...far too aggressive. Nothing like absolute agony of slipped disc to cure fibro!
