Fibro and vit d help

Hi all, i dont have a fibro diagnosis but all the symptoms fit. I brought this up woth my doctor due to the pain, fatigue ect, I suffer anxiety depression and ptsd. I had my bloods checked recently and im extremely low in vit d and folic acid.... Tge doctor thinks this is my problem rather than fibro. But upon reading a few posts here it seems that fibro can cause vit d deficiency... Is this right? Has anyone else been in the same boat? Is it worth a second opinion or do i wait it out in hopes the vit d tablets will relive my symptoms

not cause but perhaps some peoples fibro symptoms could be down to a deficiency in vit d. Also its possible that people with fibro get even less vit d as they are less mobile / not outdoors as much.

Irrespective, get tested and if low in vitamin d then get a top up. They are cheap to buy and it has been argued for a while that the RDA in the UK is a bit low. But if you are taking it when you do not need it then you are just making expensive pee....... :)

If symptoms are due to low vit D then supplements to get levels back within normal ranges would also result in your symptoms improving.

I've been low in the past....and continue to take extra vit d on doctors recommendation. Also try to get outdoors as much as I can for a natural top up

Hi Leahty it’s so frustrating not having a diagnosis and feeling terrible. Has your Doctor checked your Calcium levels? I had to keep going back to the Doctor because I knew something was wrong. Despite a referral to the hospital and being told I just had Vit D deficiency the Dr said I clearly had Hyperparathyroidism. This was subsequently confirmed by another consultant and I had surgery. Go back and be persistent if you are still feeling ill. Good luck.

Hello, I think it is worth going back and perhaps seeing another doctor and pursue as anxiety/depression/ptsd are on going as well and you need some help with this in order to start feeling abit more like yourself again and moving forward, you will feel extremely tired and wiped out if these symptoms continue as it’s very draining, doctor can advice about vitamins but my feeling is deep down you want some answers, so do push forward , I have said here before I did change doctors at my surgery and never looked back , this doctor was so in tune with everything and I did move forward , I do take medication (which works for me) and no anxiety etc anymore, let us know how you progress, we are not super human and we all need that little bit extra care at some point in our lives, xx

Hello, I live in central 🇨🇦 Canada, so lots of winter and gray skies. As you probably know, where you live and the weather can contribute to low levels of vitamin D. I take a high dose of D, a tablet once a week. I’ve had fibromyalgia for over 30 years. Getting my blood checked soon, although have to pay for checking level of D. I have learned that one needs to take bit. D with a healthy fat, ie. avocado in order for it to metabolize better. There has been more recent research done to say that higher doses of vitamins C and D help our immune systems to build up more protection during the covid pandemic. Not saying the vitamins will totally prevent covid, but they are so helpful to our bodies in so many ways. Another way to boost D is a bright light like some people use for seasonal affective disorder. Hope you get things sorted and can feel better.

I was discovered to have a vit D level of 13nmol/L and prescribed a large dose of vid D for 2 weeks, it was when my symptoms didn't improve that my GP suggested fibromyalgia (other symptoms fitted too). I now take 1000iu of vit D per day.

Im the same, every symptom fits, i mentioned fibro but they are insisting its my vit d levels causing it all. Ive been prescribed 40000 a week to get my levels back up. How long after taking vit d did the doctor say fibro? As im yet to see any improvement of symptoms if any thing they are slowly getting worse

I can't remember exactly, it was maybe a couple of months after. That GP said it *could* be fibro and gave me some websites to look at. I went back a few months later as I couldn't get my head around the rib pain, and saw another GP who agreed with the diagnosis.

Was the doctor able to Diagnose You? I was under the impression it had to be a rheumatologist. Sorry for all the questions, im finding it harder and harder to carry out normal daily activities and feel like I'm getting no where. Is there anything you find helps your symptoms?

Hi there, yes doctors can diagnose Fibro. At the end of the day your GP is the one who gets all your blood tests done. They send you for x rays and send you to see any specialists they think you may need to see. They are also the ones who deal with any medication if any they may think will help based on your tests results. All the rheumatologist does is rule out you dont have OA or RA then refers you back to your GP xx
