Hi , I’ve just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Yesterday I had a letter from rhu consultant saying my vit d down . No numbers just leaflet about foods I should eat bla bla .which has also gone to my dr . The wording used was in the insufficient bracket.
How much do you think I should supplement with . I am seeing the dr at the end of the month but I expect I won’t get any good supplements of him as it’s all about cost . I suspect they ll give me horse pills as I’ve got slight osteopenia . Any advice please
Thanks

Hi I buy a spray vitd online from Holland and Barrett, it's called Better You DLuxe oral spray nprmally £6.95 but £5.24. You can get in the store either but I buy online and setup a repeat order and it's delivered each month so I don't run out, I just to make sure money in bank for it, its on direct debit. You can buy the tablets from there or s chemist or even supermarket cheap enough, I use spray as I take so many other meds I struggle to swallow them. I also use a spray for B12 as that is low as well. I originally had course Vitd tablets from my gp as I have free meds due to age and being diabetic, but been told to keep taking it for the Winter. Do take a course as if you've felt more unwell because of this it certainly makes you feel better. x Sue
Hi there ... I get a tablet to take every day for life to help with my lack of vitamin D .... at first my rheumatologist started me on 5 a day for 60 days then I was reduced to one a day and have been on them for 3 years now... maybe ask if they can help you with the tablet ..
Please be guided by your GP as vit D needs regular monitoring. My GP prescribed 20,000iu every other day, coupled with regular blood tests to monitor. Easy to over supplement which can be as bad as having low levels. My levels took ages to come up to acceptable level before I could go onto just maintenance level.
I have osteopenia in my hands and feet, awaiting appointment with rheumatologist to find out if it was anywhere else. I am currently on high strength vitamin d supplements. Awaiting a diagnosis of either Fibro or Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome.
I have similar, and found that if I don’t take it as a maintenance dose I end up low again so have resigned to taking it for life. It is cheap OTC, make sure you ask for Vit D3. I recently decided to up my dose and now take a soft gel version at 40000 iu. It really helps the shabby aches your get with fibromyalgia. X
I have just recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis and my consultant said I had very low VitD levels so prescribed me with fultium-D3 which I take twice a day for 3 months. Yet to be retested but hopefully have increased my levels.
The vitamin D pills aren’t massive. My gp has just said I’ve to start them too. 1000 ui for 4 months then down to 500 to see how I get on. X
I get a tablet to in my blister pack (that’s a repeat prescription box ) I take 4 a day . I have had arthritis since I was a child (6) I have according to my specialist had fibromyalgia for the last 20 years but was only diagnosed 4years ago . You just get told you have it and I quick rundown of what it is but are told nothing about all the other strands that can go with it like IBS and sjogrens syndrome 2019 and still no help just chat rooms of people with a life changing illness . It can effect your sex life and I can’t stand the sweating I can’t wear what I want have to take a hand towel with me whoever I go ! I walk across the room and my hair drips as if I just come out the shower and on top of all that I have my arthritis pain but it’s all invisible to everyone else . Who say how are u know has it gone !
Dear Marg, Yes, you need a good supply of Vitamin D, especially if, like me, you are indoors so much of the time. I have used a good one for years, and it has sustained me through some very rough times. My muscles all over are so terribly weak, that I need liquids, and this is Liquid Osteocare, with calcium, magnesium, Vitamin D and zinc. Boots are doing 3 for 2 at the moment. You need to take it twice a day. Hope you can get some, or get someone to get it for you. Love from Roselil
You can get vitamin D from the pharmacy. Depending on how low your levels are. If the are very low, the doctor will prescribe them for you. I take the regular vitamin D off the shelf in the pharmacy. Hope this helps
Have had Fibro for at least 20 yrs and so much fatigue. Then Dr. discovered I have active (who me!) Epstein Barr virus. In most people it's dormant. I also had low D and was on a weekly 40,000 units. Now just over the counter daily, much less. I can't stand to be in the sun so I take the dog for a walk at night which is good for him...his heart murmur has increased so not much sun for him too. He will pant a lot. I take Co Q 10 too and iron once in awhile. My diet is lousy. If it's too good I get IBS. I prefer to snack due to Gerd. Oh, and have Osteopenia but I don't worry about that. No broken bones. There are so many factors to Fibro, and age. I'm 75 and have had pain centered in every part of me. Pay attention to yourself and see what helps, and don't expect people to notice. M.A.
