Personally I find my TENS really helpful. But it more distracts from pain than making it go away. You can get one online for about £15 so they’re not nearly as expensive as they used to be.
Your workplace sounds challenging 😥 Please don’t work yourself into the ground just because your managers don’t understand. Take care xx
My TENS machine is the only thing that helps with the pain.. BUT.!..I can't use it on my back because it sends me into spasms even on a low setting. When my back is really bad I use one of those electric massage seat things that doesn't do much for the pain but the sensation change seems to help a bit.
Hi there😊 if you add the words tens machine in the search box above you will find many replies. It is a very popular question. I have had one for about 25yrs wouldn't be without mine xx
Used my TENS machine for pain relief in childbirth. It didn't take it away completely, but definitely helped.I know it takes a few hours to start to work so do persevere. It isn't a miracle or instant cure, but a long term, non pharmacological aid.
My husband /daughter both find the tens machine very helpful, have you ever seen a physio as I have 2/3 really easy excercises for the back that really do help, my back is one of my most troublesome areas, I do find a good soak at night in the bath to relax my muscles is helpful too ,take care x
I've used a tens machine for years and wouldn't be without it. I started with a cheap one on offer from Lloyds chemist and it worked for many years, although at times I struggled because of skin pain. I upgraded to a dual channel one (4 pads) with loads of options and it's been a godsend. I'm allergic to the standard pads so have to get the blue pads, which are hypo allergenic and I limit how long I use them for some days. When I was working it used to keep the pain at bay enough to get through the day till I got home.
As LoneEra said though, don't work yourself into the ground just because work don't understand. I spent years trying to prove I could manage as well as anyone else to the detriment of my home life. I used to go to work them come home and go to bed till I next went to work.
If you are signed off by gp not much they can do they can't fire you once you produce a medical certificate ignoring the problem will only make it worse. I used a tens machine in labour and found it great for pain. I have bought one a few weeks ago to try for fibromyalgia pain but I have been ok so not tried it yet. I do have faith in it though after the help it gave me in labour its definitely worth a try. I hope you feel better soon. Good luck with the job x
I got one from physio. Found the vibrations hard to tolerate at first but when lower back pain becomes overwhelming, I use it & have gradually got used to it. I fell asleep with it on recently & back was much better the next day so for me, longer use seems most effective. I can also cope with the more powerful settings now. It''s a bit of a faff to position 4 pads on your own so good if you have someone to apply for you. You can wear it all day, if comfortable.Ask your employer for a work-station assessment by health & safety officer. If you spend time sitting or standing, they are obliged to provide any necessary adjustments to help you.
