TENS MACHINES.......

I have read on someones' blog that pain management clinic use Tens Machines to help with FMS.

Does anyone know where they place the pads and if it works?

I have a Tens Machine so it would be useful to know if it can help.

My GP says that Pain Management Clinic would only give me the same meds as her so, because I'm coping with my cocktail of drugs, doesn't think it will help with my condition.

Luckily I only have Fibro and nothing else. I feel so bad for everyone who has all the other illnesses as Fibro in itself is so debilitating.

Love to you all

Hello

Yes I work as a nurse and I recently went to a course

as the PCT are trying to push things like this as it is

cheeper than medication and less addictive

I have used it on occasions and find it good to take the

edge off but you have to keep it on all the time, and fine

your own level start off with low, and work your way up

You place the first two pads at the base of your neck either

side of your spine.

The Next go below them with a space between the first

pads again either side of your spine not to close to the

first pads. about 4inches is good

This is for Fibro only other complaints have differient

areas for the pads

You may find that short periods works for you, every

one is differient, but people seem to get more benifit

if it is kept on

When I had a bad flare I even had in on in bed you soon

get used to it, and yes I do think it works as well, as most

things it does take a bit of the pain away for me.

Good luck I hope you get some comfort from it

I was told not to use a TENS in bed. Has the advice changed now?

Hi Ren Robin I go to the pain clinic and I now see the psychologist which is really helpful they couldnt give me any different medication but the support helps. If I was you I would ask again to go to the pain clinic because you have nothing to loose.

Take care Getactive x

I can only tell you what I have been told on a recent course

Why would it do you any harm its not as though you are

attached to the electric, ha ha that gives a vision of hair

standing on end.

It may be uncomfortable if you lay on it but it would not

do you any harm. how could it its only a few batteries

if you were able to harm yourself you would not be able

to buy them in boots or borrow them from your pain nurse

The course I attended was held by a top physio and

one of the top pain nurses in hampshire,

But if you feel that this is not right for you then you

must go to your own physio or pain Nurse and ask

there advice I expect like every things differient people

have differient views. even pain nurses. we are not

all trained by the same people.

And as I have already said you must start gentle and

maybe the lower level will be enough for you and help

with the pain, and you would not need to use it at night

you have to try it for yourself.

For me, I only use it when I have a flare and it has taken

me a time to get used to the differient levels, I have it on

almost the highest during the day and at night on low

but that is just me. it will not do any one any harm thats

the beauty of the machine.

ADVICE WAS ONLY GIVEN AS TO THE POSITION OF

THE PADS, BUT IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT ANYONE

HAS TO TAKE THE ADVICE. WHEN IN DOUBT GO

TO YOUR EXPERT IN PAIN.

When you were given your Advice Tendo, where you told

where to put the pads ?? was the information from your

pain nurse or your Doctor, did you find that it worked for

you or not. why were you told not to use it at night ??

what was the reason have you got other medical problems

what I stated was for FIBRO only.

I would be very interested to know Tendo it always

interesting as a nurse to know other peoples views

on things, thank you

Viv

Hi

I agree not on you neck but at the base of you neck

There is a great deal of thought now that the pain

That we get is mixed up signals from the brain or

How the brain perceives pain

Let's face it know one really knows do the but they can from

Scans that we do in fact get lesions on the brain

Any way the feeling is that the pain in areas of the body

Travels from our brain and the best place for fibro pain

Is the place that I have stated.

This is a fairly new, I don't nurse Nero problems, but I do look

After diabetics they have the same kind of pain in there legs as

We do, so do drug addicts and tens seems to work for them

some people may not tolerate tens and it may make it worse

For me placed in the areas that I was told even if my pain was

In my feet seemed to work but it did take time

people try it or not up to them, My course was run by

A pain nurse for people who are nurses, but for any one in

Doubt they need to go to the pain clinic where I am sure they

Will either agree with me, or some will say some thing different

That's the joy of fibro I am afraid

Please forgive spelling one of those nights when sleep was not

Possible and it makes the brain a bit daft

Some times I think that it may be best not to say any thing

As such a lot of people disagree with each other, so the best

Thing is not to give an opinion just say go to a medical expert

All this just from one easy question WHERE DO THE PADs

GO

Sorry Ren robin wish I had not started this I expect you are now

Confused that was not my intention mine was just to pass information

That I had learnt as a nurse.

Love to you all

Thank you Vivien60,

I think it's going to be awkward to apply the pads as one of my replies was to put two at each side of the spine under your neck and two under those.

Will try and hopefully be able to say "IT HELPS" Fingers crosse and thank you for your reply.

Hugs

Hi

No problem I did not take it as a disagreement

And I am so sorry if I sounded that way

I must admit I was having a pain day so may be

I sounded a bit , not nice sorry

I tend not to believe the professionals that much as

They don't suffer from this thing that we do

And I am sure that most of them think we are nuts

They are only interested in saving money, so the tens

Would would be a lot cheaper than medication

Thank you for your reply and again I am sorry,

Love viv
